The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pittsburgh 7-4 at Citi Field tonight to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 54-66.
LHP David Peterson started out well with a scoreless top of the first, but in the top of the second gave up a solo homer to SS Liover Pequeno.
Peterson struggled with his command all night and was unable to throw strikes which helped elevate his pitch count and was taken out with two outs in the top of the fourth.
His final line was 3.2 innings, three hits, six walks and five strikeouts.
RHP Jose Butto followed started out well with 2.1 scoreless innings, but ran out of gas in the top of the seventh.
Butto gave up a lead-off walk to DH Andrew McCutchen and then gave up a double to 1B Connor Joe and then walked Pequeno to load the bases and was taken out.
RHP Grant Hartwig came in next and walked pinch-hitter Jack Suiwinki to bring in a run and then hit 2B Jared Triolo which brought in another run.
Hartwig gave another run on a passed ball and then a two-run double to catcher Jason Delay.
Hartwig gave up a RBI triple to LF Bryan Reynolds and was then taken out.
RHP Drew Smith followed and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.
LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a solo homer.
The bats did not do much after that until the bottom of the seventh after pinch-hitter D.J. Stewart and 2B Jonathan Aruz hit back-to-back homer, but did not score any more runs after that,
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, August 16 at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:10 p.m.
