The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 54-65.
The Met offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Nimmo with a RBI double.
In the bottom of the second, DH Daniel Vogelbach led off with a solo homer.
In the bottom of the third, SS Francisco Lindor singled with one out and then advanced to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch.
Two batters later, RF Jeff McNeil came through with a RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth, Vogelbach led off with a walk and then later in the inning, CF Rafael Ortega got on base by a fielder's choice and then stole second.
2B Jonathan Arauz came up next and broke the game with a two-run homer.
In the bottom of the fifth, Lindor led off with a double and Alonso followed with a walk.
Lindor then stole third and McNeil drove him in with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the sixth, Nimmo hit a solo homer.
RHP Carlos Carrasco had a difficult outing allowing two runs on four hits in three innings.
Carrasco gave up three walks with five strikeouts and was taken out after the top of the third with 90 pitches.
RHP Tyson Miller followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings.
Miller picked up his first win of the season.
RHP Sam Coonrod came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.
RHP Phil Bickford threw a scoreless top of the seventh,
RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 15 at home against the Pirates at 7:10 p.m.
