Mets Rout Cubs 11-2 Powered By Alonso

 The New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 11-2 tonight at Citi Field to snap their six-game losing streak and improved their record to 51-61.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after catcher Francisco Alvarez walked with one out and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and delivered a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the third, Lindor singled with one out and then Alonso followed with a two-run homer, his second homer of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, RF Jeff McNeil led off with a single and then 3B Danny Mendick followed with a single.

LF Rafael Ortega followed by reaching on a bunt single and then 2B Jonathan Aruz drew a based loaded walk.

2B Brandon Nimmo followed by grounding tinto a double play which brought home a run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Lindor led off with a walk and three batters later McNeil walked.

Mendick came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Alvarez and Lindor singled with two outs and Alonso then drove in a run with a RBI single for his sixth RBI of the game.

RHP Kodai Senga had another solid outing allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings.

Senga gave up two walks with six strikeouts.

He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 3.24.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Drew Smith came in next and got the last out in the top of the eighth.

RHP Jimmy Yacabonis closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday August 8 at home at the Cubs at 7:10 p.m.
