The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer, his 35th homer of the year and fourth homer in last three games.
After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, 2B Jeff McNeil led off the bottom of the sixth with a homer and then DH Abraham Almonte followed with a double.
Two batters later, 2B Jonathan Arauz drove in a much needed insurance run with a RBI single.
LHP David Peterson got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to DH Chris Morel and gave up another run in the top of the second on a wild pitch.
Peterson was unable to get out of the top of the fourth and was taken out with two outs in the top of the fourth.
His final line was 3.2 innings, four hits, two runs, two walks and five strikeouts.
RHP Grant Hartwig came in next and had an outstanding relief appearance throwing 2.1 scoreless innings.
Hartwig gave up one hit with two strikeouts and picked up his fourth win.
RHP Trevor Gott followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh,
LHP Josh Walker threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a solo homer to RF Seiya Suzuki.
Ottavino then gave up a single to 3B Jeimer Candelario and after a committing a balk, walked pinch-hitter Mike Taufman and was then taken out.
RHP Phil Bickford came on and retired pinch-hitter Nick Madrigal on a sacrifice bunt and after striking out Morel, walked 2B Nico Hoerner to load the bases with two outs.
Bickford was able to escape the jam by striking out LF Ian Happ and picked up his first save of the season.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, August 11 against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 p.m.
