The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 80-46.

The offense was held scoreless in the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, catcher Tomas Nido led off with a single and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single.

RF Startling Marte next grounded into a fielder's choice and then SS Francisco Lindor drove in the first run of the game with a RBI ground-out.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer, his 31st of the year. It was his first homer this year on a 3-0 count and the third of his career.

RHP Jacob deGrom dominated through his first four innings and retired 12 consecutive hitters to start the game.

deGrom got into a jam in the top of the fifth after he gave up an infield hit to SS Jose Iglesias and a double by RF Randall Grichuk with one out and then came back to strike out LF Sam Hillard and retire catcher Brian Serven on a flyout to end the inning.

deGrom gave up a solo homer to DH Charlie Blackmon in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, three hits, one run, one walk and nine strikeouts.

DeGrom had pinpoint command of his blazing fastball and wicked slider once again which helped him get key strikeouts with men on base.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 2.15.

RHP Seth Lugo followed in the top of the seventh and worked out of a based loaded jam to throw a scoreless inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the eighth instead of his usual appearance in the top of the ninth and worked out around a hit and walk with one out to throw a scoreless inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth and picked up his first save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday August 26th at home against the Rockies at 7:10 p.m.
