In the bottom of the first, RF Starling Marte was hit by a pitch with one out and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with an infield single.
1B Pete Alonso and DH Daniel Vogelbach then hit RBI singles to bring in the first two runs of the game.
After a scoreless bottom of the second, Lindor led off the bottom of the third with a single and then advanced to second on a pickoff error by RHP Jake Odorizzi.
Three batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI single.
The bats were quiet in the bottom of the fourth and fifth, but in the bottom of the sixth CF Brandon Nimmo and Marte walked with two outs and then Lindor followed and broke the game open with a two-run double.
In the bottom of the seventh, LF Mark Canha was hit by a pitch with one out and then 3B Luis Guillorme singled with two outs. C
Catcher James McCann followed with a RBI single.
Nimmo then reached on an infield single and Marte followed with a RBI single.
Lindor came up next and capped off his stellar day at the plate with a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield for his third RBI of the game.
LHP David Peterson had a stellar outing with 5.1 scoreless innings allowing three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Peterson had sharp command of his slider and fastball which helped him pick up several key strikeouts with men on base.
He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 3.30.
RHP Seth Lugo followed and gave up two runs in 1.1 innings.
RHP Adam Ottavino threw 1.1 scoreless innings.
RHP Yoan Lopez gave up three runs in the top of the ninth and recorded only out.
RHP Edwin Diaz had to come in to get the last two outs in the top of the ninth and picked up his 25th save.
The Mets have another game tonight against the Braves in the second game of a doubleheader beginning at 7:10 p.m.
