The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-0 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 75-40.

The offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and two batters later SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI single for his 82th RBI which broke Jose Reyes record of 81 RBI in 2006 for most RBI by a Mets SS in a season.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, 1B Pete Alonso doubled with one out in the bottom of the fourth and two batters later LF Mark Canha hit a RBI single.

3B Luis Guillorme followed with a RBI single and then 2B Jeff McNeil walked.

Catcher James McCann came up next and hit a RBI single to CF Brandon Marsh which scored Guillorme and then McNeil also came around to score after Marsh made a weak throw to second base.

Guillorme had to come out of the game after he pulled up lame rounding third base. He was replaced by 3B Eduardo Escobar after the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, DH Daniel Vogelbach continued his torrid hitting with a lead-off homer.

RHP Chris Bassitt started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth after he gave up singles to 1B Rhys Hoskins and 3B Alec Bohm, but then retired the next three hitters he faced to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Bassitt got into another jam after SS Jean Segura led off and reached first base on an error by 1B Pete Alonso and then Marsh doubled.

Bassitt struck out the next two hitters he faced and then walked Hoskins which loaded the bases.

Bassitt was able to settle down and retired Bohm on a line-out to second to end the inning and was taken out after the inning due to a high pitch count of 97 pitches because of the high-stress fourth and fifth innings.

His final line was five innings, four hits, 0 runs, two walks and five strikeouts

Bassitt did a fine job of keeping his composure with men on base stranding six baserunners and has now gone 24 straight innings without allowing an earned run.

He picked up his 10th win and lowered his ERA to 3.27.

RHP Trevor Williams followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh.

RHP Mychel Givens threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in the top of the ninth and recorded two outs, but also struggled allowing two hits and one walk to load the bases.

RHP Adam Ottavino had to come in and struck out Bohm to close it out.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday August 15th at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.
