The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 83-48.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, CF Brandon Nimmo singled with two outs and then RF Starling Marte followed with a two-run homer.

RHP Jacob deGrom worked out a one-out walk to SS Trea Turner in the top of the first and then came back to strike out 1B Freddie Freeman and catcher Will Smith.

deGrom settled down after with that 1-2-3 innings in the top of the second, third and fourth innings and at point retired 11 hitters in a row and had a no-hitter through four innings.

deGrom lost his no-hit bid in the top of the fifth after he gave up a one-out single to 3B Justin Turner but did not allow any runs in the inning.

In the top of the sixth, deGrom gave up a solo homer to CF Mookie Betts on a hanging slider and then gave up a two-out single to Freeman who stole second, but retired Smith to end the inning.

deGrom was saved by his defense in the top of the seventh after Nimmo made an incredible leaping catch and went over the wall to bring the ball back and rob Turner of a game-tying homer.

deGrom then struck out 2B Gavin Lux to end the inning and was then taken out.

His final line was seven innings, one run, three hits, one walk and nine strikeouts.

He had a lot of life on his fastball with a devastating slider which helped get key strikeouts and keep pitch count down.

It was the 100th time in 204 starts that deGrom has allowed one or no runs, the most of any pitcher through 204 starts in MLB history.

He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 1.98.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a 1-2-3 top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth to a live performance of "Narco" by Timmy Trumpet and had another dominating outing with a 1-2-3 inning of a strikeout of SS Trea Turner and ground-outs by Freeman and Smith to pick up his 29th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday September 1 at home against the Dodgers at 4:10 p.m.
