The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 3-0 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 82-46.

CF Brandon Nimmo got the offense off to a fast start in the bottom of the first with a lead-off homer for his 12th homer of the year and fourth against a left-handed pitcher.

It his Nimmo's sixth lead-off homer of his career and first since 2020.

In the bottom of the second, LF Mark Canha led off with a hit by pitch and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a walk.

3B Eduardo Escobar and catcher Tomas Nido then fouled out to first, but Nimmo came up and came through once again this time with a RBI double to right to score Canha.

The bats did not much for the next four innings until the bottom of the seventh after Nimmo walked with one out and then RF Startling Marte followed with a RBI double.

LHP David Peterson worked his way out of a difficult top of the first loading the bases, but was able to get out of the inning without allowing any runs.

Peterson was able to settle down after that and at one point retiring 10 consecutive hitters in a row.

He had excellent command of his fastball, slider and change-up which helped him pick up key strikeouts as well as playing a key role to get out of a tough first inning.

His final line was six innings, four hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and seven strikeouts.

He picked up his seventh win and lowered his ERA to 3.21

RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Trevor May then threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on to pitch the top of the ninth since RHP Edwin Diaz was unavailable and closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth and picked up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday August 28th at home against the Rockies at 1:40 p.m.
