Mets Lose To Phillies 4-1 And Are Unable To Get A Clutch Hit

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 15-7.

RHP Taijuan Walker threw a stellar five scoreless innings allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

RHP Trevor May followed and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and ran into trouble after he walked catcher J.T. Realmuto with one out and then gave up a two-run homer to LF Kyle Schwarber.

Ottavino then walked the following hitter 3B Alec Bohm and two batters later gave up a RBI double to CF Odubel Herrera and then taken out.

RHP Seen Reid-Foley had to come in to get the last out in the top of the seventh.

Reid-Foley stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off homer to 1B Rhys Hoskins and then retired the next two hitters, but then left the game due to an injury.

LHP Chasen Shreve had to come to get the last out in the top of the eighth and stayed in for the top of the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after CF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out and advanced to second on a ground-out by RF Starling Marte.

Nimmo then moved to third base after starting pitcher RHP Kyle Gibson made a throwing error.

SS Francisco Lindor then grounded into a fielder’s choice which brought home a run, but were not able to score any more runs in the innings.

The bats did not do much after that and wasted several scoring opportunities with men on base.

They had only four hits all night and left 13 runners on base and were 1-8 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, May 1 against the Phillies at 7:08 on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.
