The New York beat the San Francisco Giants 6-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to take three out of four games in the series and improved their record to 10-4.
In the bottom of the first, DH Francisco Lindor drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer. Lindor has started out well this year after a rough 2021 campaign with multi-hit games in three out of his last four and 10-28 since April 15th with three homers.
3B Eduardo Escobar led off the bottom of the second with his first homer as a Met and LF Mark Canha followed with a single. Two batters later, SS Luis Gullorme singled which advanced Canha to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run by manager Buck Showalter.
Catcher Tomas Nido then hit a sacrifice fly which brought in Canha.
In the following inning, Lindor led off with a single and 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a double.
1B Pete Alonso grounded out and Escobar struck out, but Canha came through with a two-out two-run single.
The bats didn't do much for the next few inning, but in the bottom of the eighth, RF Travis Jankowski walked and then Guillorme reached on a bunt single.
Nido then bunted into a fielder's choice, but then CF Brandon Nimmo hit a long RBI single to drive in an insurance run.
RHP Carlos Carrasco had a scoreless top of the first, and ran into some trouble in the top of the second inning allowing a RBI single to 2B Thairo Estrada, but settled down after that.
Carrasco went on a roll and one point retired 18 hitters in a row until he gave up a solo homer to RF Mike Yastrzemski with two outs in the top of the eighth. Carrasco had pinpoint control all game with perfect command of his all pitches including his fastball, change-up, curve-ball and slider. His slider in particular was effective especially against the left-handed hitters. He showed today why he was regarded as a top tier pitcher with the Cleveland Indians. His final line was 7.2 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. He picked up his first win and his ERA actually went up to 1.47 with 20 strikeouts and only two walks and nine hits in 18 1/3 innings.
LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and retired 1B Brandon Belt on a pop-up to third base which ended the inning.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night Friday, April 22th at the Arizona Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m.
