Mets Dominate Diamondbacks 10-3 On Home Opener Behind Francisco Lindor and Starling Marte

The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-3 this afternoon at Citi Field in their home opener for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 6-2. The offense got on the board early in the bottom of the first after LF Jeff McNeil led off with a RBI single and RF Starling Marte followed with a single. SS Francisco Lindor then grounded into a fielder's choice, but 1B Pete Alonso came up and drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
After a scoreless bottom of the second, in the bottom of the third, McNeil led off with another single and then Marte grounded into a fielder's choice and stole second. Lindor followed with a walk and then Alonso drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the fourth, 2B Robinson Cano led off with a solo homer.
In the next inning, Marte singled woth one out and Lindor followed with a two-run homer.
After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Lindor walked with one out in the bottom of the seventh and then stole second and two batters later 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a RBI double.
In the bottom of the eighth, DH J.D. Davis led off with a walk and then CF Travis Jankowski singled.
Catcher James McCann fouled out and McNeil flew out, but then Marte came up and broke the game open with a three-run homer. Lindor followed with a solo homer, his second homer of the day.
RHP Chris Bassitt worked out a 25 pitch first inning and then cruised through the next four innings. Bassitt gave up a solo homer to CF Daulton Varsho in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 6 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. He picked up his second win.
LHP Chasen Shreve followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Drew Smith then threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Sean Reid-Foley came on in the top of the ninth and had a rough outing allowing two runs on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts, but managed to get the final three outs.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon April 16th against the Diamindbacks at Citi Field at 1:10 p.m.
