LHP David Peterson made his first start of the season after making a relief appearance in Philadelphia last week and did a fine job working out of a jam in the top of the third with runners on first and second and one out striking out catcher Daulton Varsho and retired 3B Yonny Hernandez on a ground out in a fielder's choice to end the inning. Peterson had a scoreless top of the fourth and recorded one out in the top of the fifth and was then taken out. His final line was 4.1 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. The starting rotation now has a 1.07 ERA through the first 10 games. RHP Trevor Williams came in next and got the last two outs to end the top of the fifth. LHP Chasen Shreve followed in the top of the sixth and worked around a misplayed fly ball by RF Starling Marte and did not allow any runs in the inning. Shreve stayed in for the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning and picked up his first win. RHP Drew Smith threw a scorless top of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scorless top of the ninth. The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against RHP Humberto Castellanos, but finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and two batters later, 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a RBI double. 1B Dom Smith followed with a walk and then J.D. Davis came up after he pinch-hit for CF Travis Jankowski and hit a RBI single. Catcher James McCann then hit a sacrifice fly. In the next inning, Lindor walked with two outs and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer. Alonso now has 14 RBI on the season and 11 as a DH.
