The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Missouri, for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 14-5.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the top of the third, 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a double and catcher James McCann followed with an RBI double.

CF Brandon Nimmo then walked and RF Starling Marte followed with an RBI single.

The bats did not much after for the next five innings, but in the top of the ninth LF Mark Canha singled with one out and then McNeil reached on an infield single which allowed pinch-runner Travis Jankowski to advance to third.

Catcher James McCann struck out, but Nimmo then walked to load the bases and Marte was hit by a pitch to bring in another run.

RHP Chris Bassitt had another stellar outing with six scoreless innings allowing only two hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 2.25.

Bassitt showed off his repertoire with his fastball, curveball and slider. He changes speeds well and locates his pitches.

He's fun to watch and can attack hitters in a variety of ways.

RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 27th at the Cardinals at 1:15 p.m.
