Mets Beat Giants 5-4 in 10 Innings On a Walk-Off Single by Francisco Lindor

Mets SS Francisco Lindor (Photo Credits to SI.com) The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 5-4 this afternon at Citi Field in the first game of the doubleheader for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 8-3. The offense got on the board early in the bottom of the first after RF Starling Marte walked, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch by RHP Alex Cobb. The bats didn't do much for the next few innings, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth after DH J.D Davis led off with a single and after CF Travis Jankowski grounded into a fielder's choice, catcher James McCann hit a double and then LF Jeff McNeil delivered a two-run double. Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI double to tie the game. The offense went quiet after that and wasted some scoring oppprtunities in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, but in the bottom of the tenth, Lindor led off with CF Brandon Nimmo on second as the automatic runner and Lindor came through with a walk-off single. RHP Tylor Megill had a difficult first few innings in the top of the second and third, but settled down after that. Megill had scoreless innings in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and was taken out after that. His final line was 6 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. LHP Joely Rodriguez followed with a scoreless top of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth. RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his first win. The Mets next game is tonight at 7:30 p.m. against the Giants in Game 2 of doubleheader.
