Mets Lose To Diamondbacks 3-2 After Seth Lugo and Offense Struggle

Mets RHP Seth Lugo (Photo Credits to AP) The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 6-3. RHP Carlos Carrasco followed up his excellent first start with another stellar performance of five scoreless innings allowing three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. He picked up a no-decision, but lowered his ERA to 0.84. LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and had a 1-2-3 top of the sixth. Rodriguez came back out to start the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to DH Seth Beer and was then taken out. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and struck out catcher Carlos Kelly, but then gave up two-run homer to SS Sergio Alcantara. Lugo's struggled continued in the inning two batters later after he walked CF Daulton Varsho and then gave up a RBI double to 2B Ketel Marte before finally getting out of the inning. RHP Trevor May followed with a scorless top of the eighth. RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the ninth. The offense didn't do much for the first seven innings, but finally came alive in the bottom of the eighth after LF Jeff McNeil singled with one out and then RF Starling Marte followed with a two-run homer. SS Franciso Lindor then walked, but 1B Pete Alonso grounded into a double play to end any chance of a scoring threat. The bats struggled today and managed only five hits all day and left five runners on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Diamondbacks at 1:40 p.m.
