The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 10-5 this afternoon at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, but still took two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 14-6.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well in the bottom of the first retiring the first two hitters he faced, but then allowed LF Tyler O’Neil reached on an error by SS Francisco Lindor and then gave up back-to-back singles to DH Nolan Arenado and RF Corey Dickerson which led to a run.

Carrasco threw a scoreless bottom of the second, but ran into trouble once again in the bottom of the third after he gave up singles to 2B Tommy Edman and 1B Paul Goldschmidt and two batters later, a two run single to Arenado.

In the following inning, Carrasco gave up a lead-off double to catcher Yadier Molina and then hit 3B Edmundo Sosa and gave up a RBI double to Edman.

Carassaco then retired Goldschmidt and O’Neil,  but then gave up a wild pitch which allowed another run to score.

Carrasco next gave up an infield hit to Dickerson which brought in another run and was then taken out.

RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and gave up a two-run triple to CF Dylan Carlson.

Reid-Foley stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning.

He came back out for the bottom of the sixth and walked O’Neil who stole second and then gave up a RBI double to Arenado and was taken out.

LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and retired the next hitters he faced.

RHP Yoan Lopez made his Met debut in the bottom of the seventh and gave up one-out singles to Sosa and Edman and after Edman stole second, a RBI single to Goldschmidt.

Lopez stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a pitch up and in against Arenado which led to both benches and bullpens clearing.

This was following Mets 3B J.D. Davis getting hit on the foot and three other Met players getting hit on Tuesday. Eventually cooler heads prevailed and both sides went back to playing and they finished the remainder of the game.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso led off the top of the second with a single and DH Eduardo Escobar followed with a single.

Three batters later, 2B Luis Guillorme reached on an infield hit which loaded the bases and then catcher Tomas Nido came through with a two-run double.

Brandon Nimmo followed with another two-run double.

The bats did not so much for the next few innings until the top of the seventh after Nido led off with a single and three batters later SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI double.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at home at Citi Field on Friday, April 29th against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:10 p.m.
