Mets vs. Phillies Game 135 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 69-66. SS Amed Rosario led off with a single in the top of the first inning and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a walk. LF J.D. Davis struck out, but catcher Wilson Ramos hit a RBI single, which helped extend his hitting streak to 24 games. In the top of the third inning, Davis walked and Ramos hit an infield hit and RF Michael Conforto drove in Davis with a RBI double. The bats went scoreless for the next two innings until the top of the fifth after Ramos led off with a single, Conforto walked and 3B Todd Frazier hit a RBI double. 2B Joe Panik followed with a two-run double. In the top of the ninth inning, Ramos double and Conforto singled and then Frazier drove in Ramos with a RBI single.

LHP Steven Matz gave a lead-off triple to SS Jean Segura in the bottom of the first inning, and an RBI ground-out to RF Bryce Harper, but settled down after that. Matz cruised through the second-fifth innings allowing three baserunners. He gave up a solo homer to Harper in the bottom of the sixth and then 1B Logan Morrison reached on an error by Panik and LF Corey Dickerson hit a bloop single to load the bases and then Matz was taken out. His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.  He picked up his ninth win. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and got 2B Sean Rodriguez who ripped a hard line drive that Frazier was able to catch. Avilan walked pinch-hitter Andrew Knapp to bring in a run but was able to escape out of our further trouble after CF Adam Hasley grounded into a double play. RHP Jeurys Familia followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a double to Seagura and struck out catcher J.T. Realmuto and was then pulled. LHP Justin Wilson got the last outs in the bottom of the seventh on a fly-out by Harper and struck out Morrison to end the inning. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings with four strikeouts and picked up his fourth save.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 134 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 11-4 tonight to snap their six game losing streak and improved their record to 68-66. The offense was shut down against Phillies ace RHP Aaron Nola for the first six innings, but finally broke through in the top of the seventh inning. LF J.D. Davis led off with a walk and 2B Joe Panik followed with a single. SS Amed Rosario popped out, but 3B Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Catcher Wilson Ramos came up as a pitch-hitter off the bench and drove in Davis with a RBI single. Pinch-hitter Raja Davis lined out and LF Jeff McNeil popped out to end the threat and limit the damage to one run. In the top of the eighth, 1B Pete Alonso and CF Michael Conforto singled to start out the frame and one batter later, Panik walked to load the bases. SS Amed Rosario followed with a two-run single. 3B Todd Frazier then broke the game open with a three-run homer. In the top of the ninth, Alonso singled for his third hit of the game and Conforto followed with a two-run homer. Davis then walked and Panik doubled. Frazier followed with his second three-run homer of the night.

RHP Zack Wheeler had one of his best outings in a while and his final line was 6 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless top of the seventh inning and picked up his fourth win. RHP Edwin Diaz came in next in the bottom of the eighth and built off his last outing with a 1-2-3  inning with two strikeouts. RHP Chris Mazza gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but was able to close it out and get the final three outs.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Phillies at 4:05 p.m.

Mets vs. Cubs Game 133 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 4-1 tonight for their sixth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 67-66 and now trail the Cubs by 5 games for the second wild card spot in the National League. RHP Jacob deGrom gave up four runs on five hits in seven innings. Degrom gave up a solo homer to 1B Victor Caratini in the top of the second inning before settling in a nice groove retiring 15 hitters in a row. He gave up another homer to Caratini in the top of the seventh inning, this time a three-run shot. This ended his streak of 17 consecutive starts allowing three runs or fewer. RHP Seth Lugo came in next in the top of the eighth inning and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The offense struggled with runners in scoring position early in the game leaving six runners on base through the first three innings.  They have five hits for the entire game and one after the third inning. LF J.D. Davis drove in the only run with a solo homer in the bottom of the first.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had his worst outing of the year allowing six runs in the top of the first inning and 10 overall in 3 innings. The pen responded with sic scoreless innings.

The offense rallied for seven runs after 3B Jeff McNeil hit a two-run homer,. LF JD. Davis hit a solo homer. 2B Joe Panik reached on an infield hit, RF Michael Conforto hit a RBI ground-out and and a RBI single by SS Amed Rosario.

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 5-2 tonight for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 67-64. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with four scoreless innings, but gave up a lead-off double to catcher Victor Cartatini in the top of the fifth and then a two-run homer to 2B Addison Russel. Stroman gave up another two-run homer to SS Javier Baez in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was six innings, four runs, six hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Chris Mazza followed and gave up a run in two innings.

The offense was shut down once again this time by Cubs starter RHP Yu Darvish and had only five hits. 1B Pete Alonso came through once again with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, his 42th of the year which set the team record for most homers in a single season. Alonso became the first rookie since Johnny Rizzo on the 1938 Pirates to break a team's franchise record as a rookie. LF J.D. Davis added a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-1 this afternoon for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 67-63. LHP Steven Matz allowed one run on two hits in six innings. Matz gave up one walk and had six strikeouts. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and gave up a run in the top of the seventh on a solo homer by 3B Josh Donaldson, his second of the game. Sewald stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first eight innings with four hits until the bottom of the ninth inning. 1B Pete Alonso led off with a double and two batters later with one out, LF J.D. Davis singled to put runners on the corners. 3B Todd Frazier grounded into a force out to bring in a run. Catcher Wilson Ramos then pinch hit for CF Juan Lagares and singled to RF. 2B Joe Panik grounded out with runners on first and second to end the game.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday, August 27th against the Chicago Cubs at home at 7:10 p.m.

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 9-5 tonight for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 67-62. RHP Zack Wheeler started out well with a scoreless top of the first inning, but  in the top of the second inning, he gave up back-to-back walks to RF Matt Joyce and SS Adeiny Hechavarria and then a two-run double to newly acquired Braves catcher Francisco Cervelli. In the top of the third inning, Wheeler gave up a solo homer to RF Matt Joyce and another solo homer to 3B Josh Donaldson later in the inning. He settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. In the top of the sixth inning, Wheeler gave up an RBI single to LF Rafael Ortega which was an unearned run after Cervilli reached on an error by 3B Todd Frazier in the previous at-bat and Wheeler was taken out after the inning. His final line was six innings, five runs (four earned), four walks and three strikeouts. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Brad Brach came on in the top of the eighth and gave up back-to-back two out hits to  Ortega, pinch-hitter Billy Hamilton and CF Ronald Acuna Jr. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning and gave up a solo homer to 1B Freddie Freeman. Diaz had to come out of the game due to trap tightness. RHP Chris Flexen had to come in and gave up an RBI single to Cervilli.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third inning after CF Juan Lagares led off with a double, two batters later SS Amed Rosario singled and 2B Joe Panik grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run. Lagares hit another double with one out in the bottom of the fifth and advanced to third after Braves starter LHP Max Fried threw a wild pitch. Rosario drove him with an RBI single. Panik followed with a single and after Fried threw his third wild pitch, 1B Pete Alonso came up and hit a three-run homer , his 41st of the year, which tied a club record set by Todd Hundley and Carlos Beltran for most homers in a season to give the Mets a 5-4 lead. The bats were unable to capitalize after that after having opportunities to score.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Braves at 1:10 p.m. in the final game of the series.

Mets Place Tomas Nido on Seven-Day IL

The New York Mets announced today they have placed catcher Tomas Nido on the 7-Day IL due to concussion protocol after he was hit on the back of the head on a back swing last night by Braves 3B Josh Donaldson. Nido has hit .207 with three homers and 13 RBI's. Rene Rivera has been called up from Triple-A Syracuse to temporary replace him.

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-1 tonight in 14 innings to snap their five game winning streak and dropped their record to 67-61. RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding performance and cruised through the first five innings with a blazing fastball topping out at 98 mph and a sharp slider at 93 mph.. In the top of the sixth inning, deGrom gave up a single to 2B Ozzie Albies who then stole second base and 1B Freddie Freeman hit a RBI single. He stayed in for the top of the seventh and thew a scoreless inning. His fine line was seven innings, four hits, one walk and 13 strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. RHP Edwin Diaz followed in the top of the tenth and struck out CF Ronald Acuna Jr and Albies to end the inning after pinch-runner Billy Hamilton reached third base with one out. LHP Luis Avilan and RHP Brad Brach combined to throw a scoreless top of the eleventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald threw a scoreless top of the 12th inning. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the 13th inning. In the top of the 14th, RHP Jeurys Familia gave up a lead-off walk to catcher Tyler Flowers, double to former Met pinch-hitter Adeiny Hecchavaria and a RBI single to Hamilton.

The offense was stymied by Braves starter RHP Mike Foltynewich and the rest of the Braves pen. They went 0-7 with runners in scoring position and had six hits. deGrom drove in the only run with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians 2-0 tonight in a rain-shortened  eight inning victory for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 67-60. Play resumed in the bottom of the sixth after a two hour, 28 minute delay and another 38 minute rain delay in the bottom of the eighth ended the game. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after 2B Joe Panik singed, two batters later RF Michael Conforto hit a ground-rule double  and catcher Wilson Ramos followed with a two-run double to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. The bats weren't able to score any more runs after that and couldn't capitalize on a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the eighth after 3B Todd Frazier was thrown out at the eighth LF Tyler Naquin. Pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme walked and SS Amed Rosario singled and then the game was called.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had another stellar performance throwing six shutout outings with five strikeouts before having to come out due to rain delay and picked up his ninth win.  Syndergarrd threw 5.1 perfect innings and was helped out by defense in the top of the sixth after 1B Pete Alonso robbed CF Greg Allen of a hit. RHP Jeurys Familia followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald came on in the top of the eighth and threw a 1-2-3 inning.

The New York Mets announced today that they have designated SS Ruben Tejada for assignment and recalled RHP Chris Flexen from Triple-A Syracuse. Tejada was on the Mets roster for eight days and went 0-9 with three strikeouts. Flexen has a 4.30 ERA and 10.55 K/9 in 73.1 innings for Syracuse. He moved to the bullpen from the starting rotation on June 12th and was called up to the big leagues after one relief appearance. Flexen had a 3.68 ERA and nine strikeouts in 7.1 innings as a reliever.

The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians 4-3 tonight in 10 innings for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 66-60. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with two scoreless innings in the top of the first and second innings, but gave up a run in the top of the third inning on a RBI ground-out by RF Yasiel Puig. Stroman settled down after that with a scoreless top of the fourth, but came out after the inning due to left hamstring tightness. His final line was four innings, five hits, one run, one walk and one strikeout. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and threw a scoreless top of the fifth inning. RHP Brad Brach followed in the top of the sixth and gave up a run on a RBI triple by 3B Jose Ramirez. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Seth Lugo threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. LHP Luis Avilan gave up a solo homer to 1B Carlos Santana in the top of the tenth inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth inning after 3B Todd Frazier singled with one out, CF Juan Lagares followed with an RBI double to tie it up, and pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme also hit a RBI double to take the lead 2-1. The bats went quiet until the bottom of the tenth after SS Amed Rosario led off with a single, 2B Joe Panik moved Rosario over to second base with a sacrifice bunt, 1B Pete Alonso was walked intentionally, and RF Michael Conforto hit an RBI ground-out to tie the game. Catcher Wilson Ramos then hit an infield sit and LF J.D. Davis came through with an RBI single, which was his first walk-off hit of his career.

The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians 8-2 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 65-60. In the bottom of the second inning, catcher Wilson Ramos singled and LF J.D. Davis followed with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the fourth inning, 2B Joe Panik reached on an error after Indians LF Oscar Mercado dropped a routine fly ball, which allowed Panik to reach second base and RF Michael Conforto then came through with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the seventh inning, 3B Todd Frazier led off with a single, CF Juan Lagares walked, pinch-hitter Raja Davis bunted into a fielder's choice, but SS Amed Rosario hit a RBI single. Panik followed with a RBI single and 1B Pete Alonso came up and broke the game open with a two-run double. In the bottom of the eighth, Lagares walked and Davis hit a RBI double.

LHP Steven Matz had another solid start allowing two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Matz had seven strikeouts and gave up two walks. Matz picked up his eighth win and is now 6-0 at home. LHP Justin Wilson had to come in the top of the seventh inning with runners on first and second and one out and got out of the jam with two king-sized strikeouts of SS Francisco Lindor and Mercado. LHP Luis Avilan followed with a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Paul Sewald closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals 11-4 this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 64-60. In the top of the first inning, SS Amed Rosario led off with a single, but was thrown out caught stealing trying to steal second. 2B Joe Panik followed with a triple and 1B Pete Alonso walked. RF Michael Conforto came up and delivered with a three-run homer that was a towering shot to right field. The bats went quiet after that until the top of the seventh after 3B Todd Frazier led off with a double and CF Juan Lagares moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Pinch-hitter J.D. Davis followed a RBI single to tie the game. Catcher Tomas Nido then doubles and Davis was taken out of the game after he re-aggravted his quad injury. Rosario then came through with a two-run single. Conforto and Ramos later hit back-to-back singles  to bring in Panik and Alonso. In the top of the eighth, Nido and Rosario hit back-to-back doubles to drive in a run. In the top of the ninth, Alonso hit a solo homer his for 40th homer, which breaks the record for most homers by a National League rookie.

The New York Mets beat  the Kansas City Royals 4-1 tonight and improved their record to 63-2B Joe Panik drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. 1B Pete Alonso delivered the key hit in the game with a two-run single in the top of the seventh. CF Juan Lagares hit a RBI triple in the top of the ninth inning.

RHP Jacob deGrom had another outstanding performance and his final line was 7 innings, 3 hits, one run, two walks and five strikeouts. deGrom picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 2.61. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his third save.

Mets vs. Royals Game 122 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Kansas City Royals 4-1 tonight and dropped their record to 62-60. RHP Noah Syndergarrd started out well with four scoreless innings, but it all unraveled for him in the bottom of the fifth. Syndergarrd walked 1B Ryan O'Hearn with one out and then gave up back-to-back doubles to catcher Meibrys Viloria and SS Nicky Lopez. In the bottom of the sixth, he gave up a lead-off double to 3B Hunter Dozier, but was able to get out of it and came out after the inning. His final line was 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. It was the first time since July 6th that Syndergarrd has gone at least seven inning, a span of seven starts. LHP Justin Wilson followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Brad Brach came in the bottom of the eighth and gave up singles to LF Alex Gordon and Dozier and walked DH Jorge Soler to load the bases and was then taken out. RHP Edwin Diaz walked RF Brett Phillips to bring in a run and gave up an RBI single to CF Bubba Starling.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the first inning after LF J.D. Davis singled, 1B Pete Alonso grounded into a fielder's choice and reached on an error, and RF Michael Conforto drove in Davis with a RBI single. After that the bats went quiet and weren't able to capitalize with several opportunities with men on base and went 1-9 with runners in scoring position.

Injury News
LF J.D. Davis left the game in the top of the eighth inning after he tweaked his calf running down the first base line trying to beat out an infield hit.

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 10-8 tonight to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 62-59. In the top of the first inning, SS Amed Rosario led off with a double, 2B Joe Panik followed with a single and 1B Pete Alonso hit a three-run homer. In the top of the second inning, starting pitcher RHP Marcus Stroman singled and Rosario drove him with an RBI triple. Two batters later, RF Michael Conforto drew a  based loaded walk. Catcher Wilson Ramos followed with a RBI single. In the top of the third inning, 3B Todd Frazier hit a solo homer.  The bats went quiet after that until the top of the fifth inning after Alonso hit a two-run single. He drove in another run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single. They finished up with 23 hits, including five hits from Alonso and Rosario, four hits from Ramos and three hits from CF Juan Lagares. It was the first time in team history that multiple players had five hit games and Alonso is the third Met rookie to have five hits and six RBI's in a game with the others Jeremy Burnitz and David Wright.

RHP Marcus Stroman had a difficult outing allowing three runs on four hits in 5.2 innings. Stroman gave up four walks and had five strikeouts. He picked up his first win as a Met. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Brad Brach followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Gagnon had a difficult outing allowing five runs on six hits in 1.2 innings. Gagnon gave up two solo homers to 1B Freddie Freeman, a solo homer to 3B Josh Donaldson and a two-run homer to LF Ronald Acuna Jr. RHP Edwin Diaz had to come on to get the last out in the bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 25th save.

LHP Steven Matz had one of his best outings of the year allowing one run on two hits in six innings. Matz gave up one walk and had five strikeouts. He wound up with a no-decision. RHP Seth Lugo came in  next and had his worst performance of the season allowing five runs in 0.1 of an inning. LHP Luis Avialan had to come in to get the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh. The offense was held scoreless for the first six innings against Braves starter LHP Dallas Keuchel until the top of the seventh after LF J.D. Davis hit a two-run single. In the top of the ninth inning, they rallied after CF Juan Lagares singled, pinch-hitter Joe Panik doubled, SS Amed Rosario singled, and pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme singled. 1B Pete Alonso reached on an error to load the bases, but catcher Wilson Ramos and RF Michael Conforto struck out to end the game.

Jeff McNeil Placed on IL With Mild Hamstring Strain

New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil has been placed on the 10-day IL with a mild hamstring strain. SS Ruben Tejada will be activated from Triple-A Syracuse today and will be McNeil's replacement until he returns. McNeil is hitting .332 with 15 homers and 55 RBI while playing multiple positions including second base, third base, left field and right field. Tejada signed a minor league deal with the Mets in the offseason and is hitting .337 with six home runs and 39 RBI's in Triple-A.

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-3 tonight for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 61-58. RHP Zack Wheeler had a difficult outing allowing five runs on a career-high 12 hits in five innings. RHP Brad Bach came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. LHP Luis Avilan followed and got the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Jeurys Familia came in and got the last out in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Drew Gagnon threw  a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

In the top of the second inning, CF Juan Lagares singled, Wheeler was hit by a pitch and 2B Jeff McNeil drove in Lagares with an RBI single. The bats went quiet after that until the top of the eighth after RF Michael Conforto grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home 1B Pete Alonso. Lagares drove in a run in the top of the ninth after he reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 118 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 7-4 today to snap their eight-game winning streak and dropped their record to 61-57. RHP Jacob deGrom had a difficult top of the first inning and struggled with command of his fastball and allowed singles to SS Trea Turner and 3B Anthony Rendon and walked RF Juan Soto to load the bases. deGrom got former Met 2B Asdrubal Cabrera to hit a ground-ball to 1B Pete Alonso with two outs, but Alonso made a poor throw to deGrom covering first, and then catcher Wilson Ramos dropped the ball at home plate trying to make the third out. which lead to three unearned runs for DeGrom. All three runs were charged to Alonso's error. deGom settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings and was taken out after the top of the fifth. His final line was five innings, four hits, three runs (zero earned) one walk and seven strikeouts. LHP Luis Avilan came in next in the top of the sixth and gave up singles to Cabrera and catcher Kurt Suzuki to put runners on the corners with two outs and was then taken out. RHP Brad Bach came in for his team debut and was able to get out of the inning. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and gave up one-out singles to RF Adam Eaton and 2B Anthony Rendon and a two-run double to Cabrera. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning and struck out the side on 13 pitches. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and walked RF Adam Eaton with two outs and then allowed a two-run homer to CF Victor Robles.

The offense was held scoreless in the bottom of the first inning, but in the bottom of the second inning, LF J.D. Davis and catcher Wilson Ramos singled. 2B Joe Panik hit a RBI single and deGrom followed with a bunt single to load the bases. RF Jeff McNeil came up and next and hit a two-run double on the first pitch against Nationals starter RHP Annibal Sanchez to tie the game. The bats went quiet until the bottom of the seventh inning after McNeil led off with a double and SS Amed Rosario singled. CF Michael Conforto hit a sacrifice fly to bring in McNeil. They weren't able to put up any more runs after that and struggled with runners in scoring position leaving 16 men on base.

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-3 tonight for their eighth consecutive win and 15 of out 16 and improved their record to 61-56. The offense was held scoreless by Nationals starter LHP Patrick Corbin for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after LF J.D. Davis hit a solo homer for his 14th homer of the year. Catcher Wilson Ramos immediately followed with a solo homer on the first pitch on his 32th b-day which was his 13th homer of the year. The bats went quiet after that until the bottom of the eighth after pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme hit his first career homer to tie the game. 2B Joe Panik then reached on an error and 3B Jeff McNeil hit a single. 1B Pete Alonso was walked intentionally to load the bases. J.D. Davis then came to the plate and came through once again with a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game and 38th RBI on the season.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had a difficult top of the first inning throwing 29 pitches and allowed a two-run homer to LF Juan Soto. Syndergarrd settled down after that with a scoreless top of the second inning and was helped out by a double-play in the top of the third, which helped him throw another scoreless inning. He had 1-2-3 innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings and one point retired nine hitters in a row. Syndergarrd finished up strong with scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh. His final line was 7 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. He has gone at least seven innings in six straight starts which sets a career high and has a 1.91 ERA in that span. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and retired the first two hitters he faced for the 25th and 26th consecutive he faced which tied Bobby Parnell for the club record. Lugo then gave up a solo homer to Soto, but was able to recover and threw a 1--2-3 top of the ninth inning and picked up his fifth win.

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 7-6 tonight for their sixth consecutive win and improved their record to 60-56 and have now moved into a tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for the second wild card spot in the National League. RHP Marcus Stroman started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up three runs in the top of the fourth. Stroman had scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, but gave up a lead-off walk to SS Trea Turner in the top of the seventh and was then taken out. His final line was 6 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. LHP Justin Wilson came in next and gave up a two-run homer to 2B Anthony Rendon. RHP Robert Gsellman gave up a run in 1.1 innings. LHP Luis Avilan got the last two outs in the top of the ninth and picked up his third win.

Mets Sign Joe Panik to Major League Deal

The New York Mets announced today that they have signed free agent and former San Francisco Giants second baseman Joe Panik to a major league contract for the rest of the year. Infielder Adeiny Hechavarria has been designated for assignment to make room for Panik on the 40-man roster. Panik has struggled this year hitting .235 with 17 doubles, a triple, three homers and 17 RBI's. but the former St. John's star and New York native was an All-Star in 2015, Gold Glove winner in 2016 and won a World Series in 2014. He is a lifetime .271 hitter and will help improve the infield defense as well as a clutch hitter who knows how to win and fill in for Robinson Cano at 2B after his injury and help bolster the bench for the stretch run.

Mets Sign Reliever Brad Brach To Major League Deal

The New York Mets announced today that they have signed reliever RHP Brad Brach to a major league deal. Brach will be added to the active roster and left-handed reliever Donnie Hart has been sent down to Triple-A Syracuse.  He was released by the Cubs earlier this year after he had a 6.13 ERA in 39.2 innings with 10.2 strikeouts in nine inning. Brach was an All-Star with the Baltimore Orioles in 2016 and has a lifetime 3.32 ERA in 495.2 Major League innings.

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 7-2 this afternoon for their sixth consecutive win and 13 out of last 14 and improved their record to 59-56. 1B Pete Alonso got the offense on the board quickly with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. CF Michael Conforto also hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the seventh, LF Aaron Athleer doubled with one out and then RF Jeff McNeil hit a two-run homer. Two batters, Conforto hit a solo homer, his second of the game.

LHP Steven Matz bounced back after his last rough outing against the Pirates and only gave up a RBI single to CF Lewis Brinson in the top of the second and a solo homer to RF Brian Anderson in the top of the sixth. Matz was helped out by his infield defense after he was able to induce double plays in the top of the first and fourth innings. His final line was 6.2 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and seven strikeouts. He picked up his seventh win. LHP Justin Wilson had to come in the top of the seventh with two outs and gave up a single to pinch-hitter Martin Prado, but struck out SS Jon Berdi to end the inning. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Luis Avilan closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-4 tonight in the second game of  a doubleheader for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 57-56 and have won 11 of their last 12 games. This is the first time they have been over .500 since May. RHP Walker Lockett started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up a run in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI single by RF Harold Ramirez. Lockett gave up a solo homer to 3B Brian Anderson in the top of the fifth inning and was taken out with two outs with two runners on at 77 pitches. RHP Robert Gsellman came in and gave up a two-run double to former Met LF Curtis Granderson. Lockett's final line was four runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings. Gsellman stayed in and threw a scoreless top of the sixth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings with two strikeouts and picked up his second save.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning after LF Jeff McNeil lead off with a walk, SS Amed Rosario singled and RF Michael Conforto hit a two-run single. The bats went quiet after that until the bottom of the seventh inning after LF J.D. Davis hit a solo homer. Two batters later, Conforto tied the game up with a mammath solo homer to right field and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a solo homer to make it a 5-4 lead and a lead that they would not relinquish.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 6-2 this afternoon in the first game of a double-header for their third consecutive win and got their record back to .500 at 56-56. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a homer on the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning after Marlins rookie RHP Robert Duggar who was making his MLB debut. McNeil also picked up his 200th career  SS Amed Rosario hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, LF J.D. Davis singled, 3B Todd Frazier walked and CF Juan Lagares walked to load the bases. RHP Jacob deGrom helped out his own cause with a two-run single. Rosario hit an infield single to start the bottom of the fifth inning, CF Michael Conforto walked and 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single. Davis followed with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Jacob deGrom struggled in the first few innings, but then settled down and got on a roll. deGrom retired nine in a row at one point. He gave up a RBI double to 3B Starlin Castro in the top of the second and a solo homer to rookie 2B Isan Diaz in the top of the sixth inning, but was excellent otherwise. He had sharp command of his slider and change-up and was dialing up his fastball to 98 mph. His final line was 7 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. He picked up his seventh win. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
