Mets vs. Phillies Game 88 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 tonight for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 39-49. RHP Jacob deGrom had dominant stuff allowing two runs on three hits in seven innings with three walks and ten strikeouts. deGrom left the game with a no-decison. He has a 2.15 ERA in his last 46 starts and the team's record is 16-30 in those starts. RHP Seth Lugo followed in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth inning and gave up a lead-off double to catcher J.T. Realmuto and then an RBI single to RF Jay Bruce. Diaz wound up giving up four runs and was taken out with runners on first and third. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and gave up two hits and allowed both inherited runners to score. LHP Luis Avilan had to come to get the last out in the top of the ninth inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first third innings until the bottom of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer, his 29th of the year. In the bottom of the fifth inning, RF Jeff McNeil singled with two outs and Alonso followed with a double to score McNeil. Pete now has 52 extra base hits on the year.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Phillies at 7:15 p.m.
