Mets vs. Giants Game 98 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 11-4 this afternoon to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 45-53. 1B Dom Smith drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the second inning. 3B Todd Frazier tripled in the top of the fourth and Smith drove him in with an RBI single. SS Amed Rosario led off the top of the fifth with a single and stole second and two batters later, RF Jeff McNeil hit a two-run homer. Frazier hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth and LF J.D. Davis and Rosario singled. Pete Alonso came up as a pinch-hitter and broke the game open with a three-run homer that traveled 444 feet. Smith capped off his big day at the plate with a two-run single in the top of the ninth. Davis followed with a RBI single.

RHP Walker Lockett had a solid start allowing one run on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts in five innings for the best outing of his young career and allowed one run on a RBI single by pinch-hitter Joe Panik in the bottom of the fifth. He settled in a groove and one point retiring nine in a row from the first to the fourth and threw 43 out of 58 pitches for strikes. LHP Justin Wilson came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Tyler Bashlor followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings with two strikeouts. RHP Stephen Nogosek allowed three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to close it out.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Giants at 4:05 p.m.
