The New York Mets defeated the Minnesota Twins 3-2 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 43-51. In the top of the first inning, 2B Robinson Cano drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly. CF Michael Conforto followed by driving in a run after he reached on an error by Twins second baseman Jonathan Schoop. Conforto drove in another run in the top of the fifth after he reached on an infield single and finished the night 4-4.

LHP Steven Matz had a difficult outing allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk in four innings. Matz was taken out after four innings due to a limited pitch count. RHP Robert Gsellman followed with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. LHP Luis Avilan came in next and threw a scoreless inning and picked up his first win. LHP Justin Wilson continued his second half success with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth and has looked like he has gotten his sharpness back on his curveball and life on fastball. RHP Edwin Diaz had a shaky bottom of the ninth inning and loaded the bases with two outs, but was able to get out of the inning after he got DH Nelson Cruz to pop out and he picked up his 21st save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Twins at 1:10 p.m.
