Mets vs. White Sox Game 106 Recap

Mets RHP Noah Syndergarrd (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com)

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-2 last night in 11 innings for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 51-55. In the top of the second inning, 3B Todd Frazier and SS Amed Rosario singled and Rosario stole second. Catcher Tomas Nido hit an RBI ground-out to bring in Frazier. In the top of the fifth inning, CF Michael Conforto led off with a walk and 1B Pete Alonso singled to send Conforto to third base. 2B Robinson Cano hit a high chopper ground-ball to score Conforto. After that the bats went quiet and wasted several scoring opportunities until the top of the eleventh inning after Rosario led off with a single and LF Jeff McNeil and Conforto hit back-to-back homers.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd was outstanding allowing one unearned run on five hits and one walk with eleven strikeouts in 7.1 innings.. Syndergarrd had dominant stuff from the beginning and was throwing 100 mph with a nasty curve-ball and slider and wasn't fazed at all by all the trade rumors swirling around him. LHP Justin Wilson came in next in the bottom of the eighth inning and gave up a bunt single to LF Jon Jay and was then taken out. RHP Seth Lugo followed and got 1B Jose Abreau to ground into a double-play to end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth inning and had another difficult outing and gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Tim Anderson to tie the game to blow his fifth save. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the tenth and eleventh innings and picked up his second win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the White Sox at 8:10 p.m.
