The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 3-2 in 12 innings this afternoon to lose three out of four games in the series and dropped their record to 45-54. LHP Steven Matz threw a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second inning after he gave up single to catcher Buster Posey, single to 3B Zach Green and a RBI single to SS Brandon Crawford, but was able to limit the damage to one run. Matz threw a scoreless bottom of the third inning, but gave up another run in the bottom of the fourth after he allowed doubles to Posey and Green. He settled down after that and didn't allow a hit the rest of the way and worked around an error by 3B Todd Frazier in the bottom of the fifth. Matz finished up strong striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth and was then taken out. His final line was 6 innings, 6 hits, 2 earned runs, one walk and six strikeouts. LHP Justin Wilson came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Seth Lugo followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless bottom of the tenth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia came on in the bottom of the eleventh inning and got into immediate trouble walking 1B Brandon Belt and Posey and was then taken out. RHP Robert Gsellman came in and was able to escape out of the jam after pinch-hitter Alex Dickerson to ground into a double and 3B Pablo Sandoval to fly out to end the inning. Gsellman stayed in for the bottom of the 12th and gave up a solo walk-off homer to CF Mike Yastremski.

The offense got on the board in the top of the second inning after CF Michael Conforto and SS Amed Rosario hit solo homers. The bats went quiet after that and LF J.D. Davis and 3B Todd Frazier had the only other hits.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back home at Citi Field on Tuesday, July 23th against the San Diego Padres at 7:10 p.m.
