Mets vs. Phillies Game 89 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 tonight and improved their record to 40-49. CF Michael Conforto drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. RF Jeff McNeil continued his torrid first half  with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. LF Dom Smith hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third. Catcher Tomas Nido came through with a bases clearing double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. He gave up three walks and had three strikeouts. Syndegarrd picked up his sixth win. LHP Justin Wilson followed with two outs in the top of the sixth. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and gave up a run, but got the last out in the top of the sixth and the first out in the top of the seventh. LHP Steven Matz got the last two outs in the top of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his 19th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Phillies at 1:10 p.m.
