The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 6-5 tonight in 10 innings to drop their record to 54-51. They are now 7 games out of first place in the National League East. RHP Seth Lugo gave up a run in the top of the tenth inning and took the loss. LHP Jerry Blevins and RHP Addison Reed gave up the tying runs in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Logan Verrett gave up 3 runs on four hits in five innings. He had 2 strikeouts and allowed 3 walks.
3B Wilmer Flores hit an eleventh home run of the season, a solo shot. Michael Conforto hit an RBI double. SS Matt Reynolds hit a 3 run homer, his second homer of the season. The Mets offense had second and third with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning against Yankees closer Delin Betances, but were unable to score. This has become a recurring theme all season long. They haven't been able to drive in runs in key spots with runners in scoring position. Hopefully Jay Bruce will help improve on that when he makes his debut tomorrow night.
