The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-0 tonight to win their second consecutive game and improve their record to 62-62. They are now 4.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals and and will face them starting on Tuesday night in a key three game series. RHP Noah Syndergarrd was outstanding tonight pitching 8 scoreless innings. He gave up only two hits and two walks. He had six strikeouts. Tbis was arguably Syndergarrd's best outing of the season. He kept the Giants hitters off balanced all night. He picked up his eleventh win on the season. RHP Jeurya Familia pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up his 41st save.
LF Yoenis Cespedes provided the only offense the Mets would need with a 2 run homer in the top of the seventh inning. This is Cespedes's third homer in the last two games and he has now 25 homers on the season. Cespedes is starting to get hot like he did at the end of last season. Hopefully he will keep like this against the Cards and will help get the Mets back in the NL wild card race.
