The New York Mets lost to the Arizona 13-5 last night to drop their record to 60-60. They are now four games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot in the National League. LHP Jon Niese took the loss after he allowed 4 runs in 4 2/3 innings on 4 hits. He gave up 2 walks and had six strikeouts. After Niese was taken out, RHP Erik Goedell came in and gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. RHP Gabiel Ynoa allowed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Josh Edgin allowed 4 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Mets offense got off to a hot start in the top of the first inning courtesy of Jose Reyes, who led off with a single, stole second base, and later scored on a wild pitch. They weren't able to score until the top of the eighth inning when RF Jay Bruce hit an RBI double. In the top of the ninth inning, CF Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer. Catcher Rene Rivera added a 2 run pinch hit homer in the top of the ninth.
