Mets Send Down Catcher Francisco Alvarez

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (Photo Credits to Brett Davis-Imagn Images)

The New York Mets sent catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A earlier today.

Catcher Hayden Senger has been recalled from Triple-A.

Alvarez has had a difficult season after he broke hammate bone in his left hand in the beginning of the season and caused him to be out until April 25.

He has not hit since returning from injury hitting .236 with three homers and 11 RBI in 35 games.

Alvarez has also had problems defensively with three errors and four passed balls as well as having trouble blocking balls in the dirt and allowed 18 stolen bases out of 27 attempts.

Hopefully Alvarez can figure it out in Triple-A and regain the form that he showed in his rookie year in 2023 hitting 25 homers, but has not that type of power since due to two fractures in his left receiving hand, hitting 11 homers in 2024 and three this season.

Mets RHP Tylor Megill Placed on IL With Elbow Sprain

Mets RHP Tylor Megill (Photo Credits to Getty Images)

New York Mets RHP Tylor Megill been placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow strain. RHP Justin Garza was recalled as corresponding roster move. An MRI revealed no structural damage only a lot of inflammation in the joint.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Megill will only miss 4-5 weeks in a best-case scenario.

Megill began experiencing some "pulling" in his right elbow in his last start on his offspeed pitches.

Now that he is hurt, this injury hurts the Mets starting rotation depth even more after RHP Kodai Senga out due to a right hamstring strain that should also cause him to be out until at least the middle of July.

RHP Griffin Canning and RHP Paul Blackburn have also struggled with a combined 10.93 ERA in the last 10 days.

With Megill out, the Mets will have to figure out a spot starter in his absence.

Fortunately. LHP Sean Manaea and RHP Frankie Montas are on their way back hopefully soon from rehab starts.

Now with Megill on the IL, the Mets rotation consists of LHP David Peterson, Canning, Blackburn and RHP Clay Holmes.

Mets Lose a Heartbreaker 5-4 to Braves in 10 Innings After Blowing Three-Run Lead

Mets CF Tyrone Taylor (Photo Credits to SNY.TV)

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-4 tin 10 innings tonight at Suntruist Park for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 45-28.

LHP David Peterson had scoreless innings in the bottom of the first and second and then gave up a RBI single to 1B Matt Olson in the bottom of the third.

Peterson was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the eighth.

He gave up a lead-off walk to SS Nick Allen and then gave up a single to RF Ronald Acuna Jr and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and gave up a single to LF Alex Verdugo to load the bases, but then responded by striking out Olson and getting 3B Austin Riley to hit a shallow fly ball to right field for the second out.

However, Garrett was unable to escape out of the jam after he gave up a bases-clearing double to DH Marcell Ozuna on a hanging splitter on a 2-2 count.

Garrett then recovered to retire the next hitter to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the ninth, RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless inning.

In the bottom of the tenth, RHP Huascar Brazoban came on and walked Acuna Jr intentionally and after retiring Verduco on a inifield hit was let down by his defense.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez couldn't handle a pitch in the dirt and had SS Luke Williams in a rundown at second, but made the mistake of throwing the ball to second instead of throwing the ball to third or running the ball back at Williams to get him in a rundown and tag him out.

Brazoban then gave up another walk and then a walk-off sacrifice fly to Riley.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after RF Juan Soto hit a solo homer.

In the top of the second, 2B Jeff McNeil singled and two batters later, Alvarez followed with a walk.

Two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor delivered with a two-run double.

In the top of the fifth, Taylor came through with a solo homer.

In the top of the sixth, Alonso singled but was doubled off first to end the inning after McNeil lined out to second.

In the top of the ninth, poor baserunning cost them once again after Soto singled to lead off the inning and then Alonso hit a deep flyball to right field, but was robbed after Acuna Jr made an incredible leaping catch and then doubled Soto off first after Soto made a poor baserunning read of the catch and flyball.

The Met offense went 1-6 with runners in scoring position leaving two runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 18 at the Braves at 7:15 p.m.

The New York Mets are recalling up top prospect infielder Ronny Mauricio after infielder Mark Vientos hurt his hamstring coming out of the batter's box in the 10th inning of last night's game..

There is no announcement yet on the extent of Vientos injury, but it is expected that he will be placed on the injured list.

Mauricio has been tearing it up in Triple-A hitting 17 for 33 in nine games with three home runs and a .515/,564/.818 slash line.

He played in 26 games for the Mets in 2023 hitting 2 homers with 7 steals and a .643 OPS, but then tore his ACL in his right knee in the Dominican Winter League that offseason and has not played in the majors since.

Now that Mauricio is finally healthy, he will hopefully bring power and speed and an energy to a starting lineup that could use a spark.
