Mets Swept By Guardians 6-3 And Quintana and Bullpen Blow Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 this afternoon at Progressive Field to be swept in their three-game series and dropped their record to 21-28.

LHP Jose Quintana started out well with five scoreless innings, but it fell apart for him in the bottom of the sixth after he gave up a three-run homer to 2B Andres Giminez and was taken out after the inning.

Quintana's final line was six innings, four hits, three runs, 0 walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up the game-winning RBI single to RF Jonathan Rodriguez.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in the bottom of the eighth and had a tough outing allowing two runs on a a RBI double to DH Jose Ramirez and a RBI single by pinch-hitter Kyle Manzardo.

The Met offense got on the board early in the top of the first after 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer.

In the top of the second, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a solo homer.

In the top of the fourth, CF Harrison Bader hit a solo homer.

The Met offense did not do much after that and struggled with men going 0-8 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base,

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, May 24 back at home against the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 p.m.
