The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 tonight in 11 innings at Citizens Bank Park to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 20-23.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer.

In the top of the second, RF Starling Marte singled and then stole second and then 3B Brett Baty drove in Marte with a RBI double.

The bats did not do much for the next five innings, but came alive in the top of eighth.

CF Tyrone Taylor reached on an error and Alonso walked.

Later in the inning, pinch-hitter Harrison Bader came up and delivered game-tying single.

Alonso then scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the eleventh, DH J.D. Martinez led off and drove in the game-winning run with a RBI double.

Bader followed with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch.

LHP Jose Quintana started out well with five scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

Quintana gave up one-out singles to catcher J.T Realmuto and 1B Bryce Harper and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and gave up a RBI single to 3B Alec Hohm and then Taylor made a throwing error which allowed runners to advance to second and third.

Garrett then gave up a sacrifice fly to RF Nick Castellanos.

Garrett stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a RBI double to DH Kyle Schwarber.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and had another difficult outing walking LF Brandon Marsh and then throwing a wild pitch.

Later in the inning, Diaz gave up a game-tying RBI single to SS Bryson Stott for his third blown save of the year.

RHP Jorge Lopez threw a scoreless bottom of the tenth and picked up his first win.

LHP Jake Diekmann came on in the bottom of the eleventh and got into trouble after Alonso made an error and then gave up a walk which loaded the bases.

Diekmann was able to recover by retiring Stott on a RBI ground-out and then struck out Schwarber for the last out of the game and picked up his first win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, May 17 at the Miami Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
