Mets Lose to Giants 8-7 After Garrett Blows 8th Inning Lead

The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 8-7 tonight at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 21-29.

RHP Christian Scott had a scoreless top of the first, but gave up a solo homer to DH Jorge Soler in the top of the second.

Scott gave up a RBI ground-out to CF Luis Matos in the top of the third, but settled down after that retiring the last 11 hitters he faced.

Scott's final line was six innings, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

RHP Edwin Diaz came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Reed Garrett followed in the top of the eighth and had his worst outing of the season allowing a RBI double to 2B Thairo Estrada and later in the inning, a grand slam to catcher Patrick Bailey.

In the top of the ninth, RHP Jorge Lopez gave up a solo homer to RF Mike Yastrzemski.

In the bottom of the first, 1B Pete Alonso drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, 2B Jeff McNeil drove in the tying run in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, D.H. J.D. Martinez and 3B Mark Vientos hit back-to-back homers.

In the bottom of the seventh, Alonso drove in his second RBI of the game with a solo homer,

In the bottom of the ninth, pinch-hitter D.J. Stewart led off with a double and two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor drove in a run with a RBI single.

Later in the inning, LF Brandon Nimmo was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out, but then Martinez struck out and Vientos grounded out to third to end the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, May 25 at home against the Giants at 1:40 p.m.
