The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 tonight at Busch Stadium to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 17-18.

The Mets offense got on the board early in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor walked with two outs and then 1B D.J. Stewart followed with a RBI double.

The bats did not do much for the next three innings until the top of the fifth after catcher Tomas Nido singled and then CF Brandon Nimmo singled and advanced to second on an error by RF Lars Noothbaar.

RF Starling Marte followed with a RBI ground-out and Lindor then hit a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the seventh, Nimmo drove in the go-ahead run with a solo homer.

LHP Sean Manaea cruised through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

Manaea allowed the first three baserunners he faced and then gave up a RBI double to catcher Wilson Contreras and later in the inning a two-run double to DH Ivan Herrera and was taken out after the inning.

Manaea's final line was six innings, six hits, three runs, one walk and one strikeout.

He picked up his second win.

LHP Jake Diekman followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and had a much better outing with a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout and two ground-outs relying mostly on his fastball to pick up his fifth save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 7 at the Cardinals at 7:45 p.m.
