LHP Joey Lucchesi got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first after he gave up a solo homer to 1B Bryce Harper.
Lucchesi was then able to throw scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth, however it all fell apart in the bottom of the fifth.
He gave up two consecutive walks and then a sacrifice bunt to CF Johan Rojas which loaded the bases.
Lucches gave up his third walk of the inning to DH Kyle Schwarber to score the tying run.
Lucchesi then allowed a two-run single to catcher J.T. Realmuto and a two-run double to Harper and was then taken out.
His final line was 4.1 innings, five hits, five runs, four walks and two strikeouts.
RHP Grant Hartwig came in next and got the last two outs in the bottom of the fifth.
Hartwig stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and gave up a RBI ground-out to LF Christian Pache and two batters later, a RBI single to Schwarber.
RHP Adrian Houser came in the bottom of the seventh and gave up singles to Harper and 3B Alec Bohm.
Later in the inning, Houser gave up a RBI ground-out to SS Edmundo Sosa and then a sacrifice fly by Pache and later in the inning a RBI single by Rojas.
Houser stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.
The Met offense got on the board in the top of the first after 3B Mark Vientos hit a RBI double.
In the top of third, 1B Pete Alonso scored on a wild pitch.
The offense did not do much until the top of the eighth after DH J.D. Martinez led off with a solo homer and two batter later, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI double.
Later in the inning, catcher Tomas Nido hit a RBI single.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, May 16 at the Phillies at 6:40 p.m.
