The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-2 tonight at Wrigley Field to snap their five-game winning streak and dropped their record to 25-24.

RHP Tylor Megill started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Megill gave up a solo homer to RF Seiya Suzuki and then walked the following hitter DH Christopher Morel.

Three batters later, Megill gave up a RBI single to catcher Yan Gomes and then a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Matt Mervis.

Megill responded with a scoreless bottom of the third, but his troubles continued in the bottom of the fourth.

LF Tommy Pham dropped a fly ball that allowed lead-off hitter CF Mike Tauchman to reach second base and after striking out the next two hitters, Megill gave up a RBI single to Mervis.

Two batters Megill gave up a RBI single to SS Dansby Swanson and was then taken out.

His final line was 3.2 innings, six hits, six runs (four earned), two walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Dominic Leone followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Stephen Nogosek came in next and gave up a solo homer to Morel in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Jeff Brigham had to come in the bottom of the eighth and picked the last out of the inning.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer.

It was Alonso's Major League leading 18th homer of the season as well as his fifth in the last seven games.

In the top of the sixth, CF Brandon Nimmo and 2B Eduardo Escobar singled and then SS Francisco Lindor walked to load the bases.

Alonso came up next and drove in Nimmo on a RBI ground-out but then pinch-hitter Daniel Vogelbach flew out RF Starling Marte grounded out to end the inning.

The Met bats struggled all night with men on base and failed to get timely hits.

They went 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 24 at the Cubs at 7:40 p.m.
