The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 5-2 tonight at Coors Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 27-25.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a two-run homer.

The bats did not score for the next three innings wasting a based loaded scoring opportunity in the top of the third, but broke through once again in the top of the fifth.

Nimmo tripled with one out and then Lindor followed with a RBI single, his third RBI of the game.

2B Jeff McNeil then hit a ground ball to 3B Ryan McMahon who made a poor throw to second which allowed Lindor to be safe.

1B Pete Alonso then flew out to right field advancing Lindor to third and then 3B Brett Baty delivered with a RBI single to the opposite field to bring in Lindor,

In the top of the ninth, Nimmo led off with a triple for his second triple of the night. He had two triples and three walks in the game and that has only been achieved four other times since 1901.

Lindor came up next and capped off his stellar night at the plate with a sacrifice fly for his fourth RBI of the game.

RHP Max Scherzer started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave up a solo homer to McMahon in the bottom of the second.

Scherzer settled down after that with a 1-2-3 bottom of the third and wound up retiring 11 hitters in a row until he gave up a double with two outs to 2B Alan Trejo.

Scherzer was able to get out of the inning and then finished up strong with scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

His final line was seven innings, six hits, one run, no walks and eight strikeouts.

He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.54.

RHP David Robertson came in next in the bottom of eighth and gave up a lead-off homer to DH Charlie Blackmon but then retired the three hitters he faced.

LHP Brooks Raley came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into trouble walking lefties pinch-hitter Randall Grichuik and Nolan Jones and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed and was helped out by his defense after Lindor made a heads ups play to throw out Jones as he was trying to get back to second base.

Ottavino then closed out by striking out pinch-hitter Mike Moustakis and picked up his fifth save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, May 27 at the Rockies at 9:10 p.m.
