The New York Mets lost to the Detroit Tigers 2-0 this afternoon at Comerica Park to get swept in their three-game series and dropped their record to 16-16.
RHP Justin Verlander made his season debut and got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up solo homers to CF Riley Greene and SS Javier Baez.
Verlander was able to settle down after that and did not allow more runs allowing working his way out of a jam in the bottom of the third with runners on second and third.
He was taken out after five innings on a limited pitch count of 79 pitches.
His final line was five innings, two runs, five hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
RHP Jeff Brigham followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Dominic Leone came in next in his team debut and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
The offense did not do much all day and were shut down by LHP Eduardo Rodriguez.
They managed only three hits and one walk.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday May 5, back at home at Citi Field against the Colorado Rockies at 7:10 p.m.
