LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a one-out double to 3B Nick Senzel and two batters later, a RBI single to DH Tyler Stephenson.
Peterson's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a walk and an infield hit and later in the inning a RBI ground-out to 2B Jonathan India. He then allowed a RBI single to the following hitter Senzel.
Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the third, but had more trouble in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a one-out double to catcher Luke Malle and then a RBI double to India.
Peterson was taken out after that and his final line was 3.1 innings, seven hits, four runs, two walks and four strikeouts.
RHP Stephen Nogosek came back in and got the last two outs in the inning.
Nogosek stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and gave up a one-out single to RF Wil Myers and then Myers was called safe running to second base on a ground-out by SS Kevin Newman.
Mets Manager Buck Showalter argued that Myers should be called for obstruction, but Showalter was thrown out of the game for the first time in his Met career.
Nogosek then gave up a two-run triple to CF TJ Friedl and a RBI single to the following hitter India and was then taken out.
RHP Jeff Brigham came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer.
The bats did not do much for the next two innings until the top of the sixth after Alvarez hit another solo homer.
In the top of the seventh, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer.
Later in the inning, LF Mark Canha had a chance to cut into the lead with the bases loaded, but then he grounded into a double play scoring 3B Brett Baty.
In the top of the eighth, SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer. Pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme came up with the bases loaded and two outs but struck out to end the threat.
The bats struggled to get a timely hit and went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 10 at the Reds at 6:40 p.m.
