The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3 this afternoon in the second game of a doubleheader to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 16-13.
The offense got on the board early in the bottom of the first after 2B Jeff McNeil singled and then DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a RBI double.
The bats did not do much for the next three innings until the bottom of the fifth after 3B Brett Baty doubled, CF Brandon Nimmo singled and then RF Starling Marte drove in Baty with a RBI single.
In the bottom of the sixth, Vogelbach and LF Mark Canha walked with one out and then catcher Francisco Alvarez came through with a RBI double.
In the bottom of the eighth, 2B Jeff McNeil drove in a much needed insurance run with a solo homer.
RHP Tylor Megill cruised through the first five innings, but ran into trouble into the top of the sixth.
Megill gave up a lead-off double to catcher Chadwick Tromp and then walked 1B Matt Olson and DH Sean Murphy which loaded the bases.
It all fell apart for Megill after that when he gave up a three-run double to LF Eddie Rosario and he was then taken out.
His final line was 5.2 innings, four hits, three runs, three walks and four strikeouts.
RHP Drew Smith followed with 1.1 scoreless innings and picked up his second win.
RHP David Robertson closed it with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth and picked up his sixth save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 2 at the Detroit Tigers at 6:40 p.m.
