The New York Mets lost to the Detroit Tigers 8-1 this afternoon at Comerica Park in the second game of a doubleheader for their second consecutive loss following a loss in first game of doubleheader and dropped their record to 16-15.

RHP Max Scherzer made his return after a 10-game suspension and got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first inning after he gave up a lead-off walk and a singe.

Two batters later, Scherzer gave up a sacrifice fly to 3B Nick Maton and then a RBI double to 1B Spencer Torkelson.

Scherzers's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a solo homer to catcher Eric Haase.

Scherzer had a scoreless bottom of the third, but it unraveled for him in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off single and then a two-run homer to RF Matt Vierling.

Scherzer then gave up a single to two out of the next three hitters he faced and was then taken out.

RHP Zack Muckenhirn came in next and gave up a RBI single to CF Riley Greene.

Muckenhirn was able to settle down with a double play to end the bottom of the fourth and had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth.

RHP Jose Butto followed with scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh and came back out for the bottom of the eighth.

Butto gave up a lead-off single and was taken out after he struck out the following hitter.

RHP John Curtiss came in next and two batters later gave up a double to Haase and a two-run single to DH Andy Ibanez.

The offense did not do much outside of the top of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso led off with a walk and DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a RBI double.

They struggled with men on base and went 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, May 4 at the Tigers at 1:10 p.m.
