Mets Beat Guardians 10-9 on Walk-off By Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Cleveland Guardians 10-9 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record back to .500 at 23-23.

RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a single to former Met SS Amed Rosario, walked 3B Jose Ramirez and then gave up a three-run homer to DH Josh Naylor.

Carrasco's struggles continued in the top of the second after he gave up a lead-off double to CF Myles Straw and two batters a RBI single to catcher Cam Gallagher.

Carrasco had scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth, but in the top of the fifth, he walked RF Will Brennan to lead off the inning who then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch and then gave up a RBI single to Rosario. 

Carrasco was taken out after the inning and his final line was five innings, five runs, three walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Dominic Leone came in next and had a scoreless top of the sixth, but had a much more difficult time back out for the top of the seventh after he gave up a lead-off single to Brennan, hit Gallager with a hit by pitch and then walked LF Steven Kwan to load the bases and was then taken out.

RHP Stephen Nogosek appeared next and gave up a RBI single to Rosario, but CF Brandon Nimmo made a perfect throw to throw out Brennam who was caught in a rundown.

Nogosek then walked Ramirez to load the bases and then gave up a two-run single to Naylor.

Nogosek then gave up a walk to load the bases and was then taken out.

RHP Tommy Hunter appeared next and retired 2B Andres Giminez on a ground-out to end the inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the eighth and had a scoreless inning.

RHP David Robertson threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

RHP Drew Smith came on in the top of the tenth and gave up a two-run homer to 1B Gabriel Arias. Smith was able to pick up his third win of the year.

The Met offense did not do much for the first four innings, but in the bottom of the fifth catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer with one out and two batters later SS Francisco Lindor doubled.

2B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI single to score Lindor.

In the bottom of the sixth, 3B Brett Baty hit a solo homer to the opposite field.

In the bottom of the seventh, Nimmo led off with a walk and Lindor followed with a single.

McNeil then walked to load the bases and Alonso continued his torrid hitting with a grand slam to tie the game to extend his home run streak to four consecutive games. It was also his 71th career homer at Citi Field which ties Lucas Duda for the most in the stadium's history.

In the bottom of the tenth with Baty on second as the free runner, DH Mark Vientos drove him with a RBI single. 

Pinch-hitter Daniel Vogelbach struck out, but then Alvarez came through with a game-tying RBI single and advanced to second on a poor throw.

Nimmo then reached on an infield hit and Lindor capped off another incredible comeback with a RBI walk-off single.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, May 20 at home against the Guardians at 4:10 p.m.
