The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 7-1 this afternoon at Citi Field to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 85-50.

RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a tough beginning in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off double to RF Lane Thomas and then a RBI single to the following hitter 2B Luis Garcia.

After a scoreless top of the second, Carrasco gave up a one-out and then was let down by his defense after 2B Jeff McNeil botched what should have been a double play.

Carrasco then gave up a single to 1B Joey Meneses and two batters later, a two-run single to catcher Keibert Ruiz.

Carrasco walked the following hitter LF Cesar Hernandez and then gave up a two-run single to 3B Ildemaro Vargas and was taken out,

His final line was 2.2 innings, six hits, five runs (one earned run), two walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Trevor Williams came in next and got the last out in the top of third and threw a scoreless top of the fourth.

Williams stayed in for the top of the fifth and gave up a two-run homer to Hernandez.

Williams threw scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was 4.1 innings, five hits, two runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Tommy Hunter followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 1B Pete Alonso walked to lead off the bottom of the second and then DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a single which helped advance Alonso to third.

McNeil then hit a sacrifice fly to score Alonso.

The bats did not much after that and managed six hits going 0-2 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Monday, September 5 at the Pittsburgh Pirates at 12:35 p.m.
