The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 7-3 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 85-48.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 2B Jeff McNeil singled to lead off the bottom of the second and then two batters later, 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, DH Daniel Vogelbach drew a lead-off walk and then McNeil followed with a double.

LF Mark Canha then grounded out and Escobar was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Catcher Tomas Nido followed with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the sixth, 1B Pete Alonso led off and broke a 3-3 tie with a solo homer, his 32th homer of the year. Alonso now has 26 game-winning RBI this year one shy of the single-season record set by Willie Mays and Joe Torre.

Vogelbach followed with another walk and then McNeil singled.

Camha came up next and singled to load the bases.

Escobar followed with a sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the game.

Nido came up and hit a RBI single and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed and broke the game open with a RBI triple.

LHP David Peterson started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the third after he gave up a lead-off walk to CF Victor Robles and later in the inning, Nido made a throwing error trying to pick off Robles at third base which allowed him to score.

After a scoreless top of the fourth, Peterson gave another run in the top of the fifth after he gave up a one-out single to RF Joey Meneses and later in the inning, a RBI single to pinch-hitter Alex Call.

Peterson came back for the top of the sixth and gave up a one-out single to 2B Luis Garcia and then allowed a game-tying RBI double to 3B Ildemaro Vargas and was taken out after that.

His final line was 5.1 innings, eight hits, three runs, one walk and six strikeouts.

RHP Mychal Givins followed and had a stellar performance of 1.2 scoreless innings for his first win as a Met and has a 2.25 ERA in his seven appearances since being traded to the Mets from the Chicago Cubs.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, September 3 at home against the Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
