The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 7-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 85-49.

RHP Max Scherzer got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a solo homer to 2B Luis Garcia.

Scherzer settled down after that with a scoreless top of the second and was helped out by his defense in the top of the third after SS Francisco Lindor and 2B Jeff McNeil turned a fine double play to end the inning.

Scherzer cruised through the top of the fourth and fifth innings and then came out after the top of the fifth due to fatigue on his left side.

His final line was fine innings, three hits, one run, one walk and five strikeouts,

RHP Tommy Hunter followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to CF Lane Thomas,

RHP Adonis Medina followed in the top of the ninth and had a difficult outing allowing five runs and only recorded one out.

RHP Bryce Montes de Oca came in to make his ML debut and gave up a hit and walk, but also had his first ML strikeout with a 100 mph sinker.

The offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by 3B Eduardo Escobar in the bottom of the third.

They were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday September 4 against the Nationals at 1:40 p.m.
