The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-2 tonight at SunTruist Park in the first game of an important three game series and dropped their record to 98-59.

RHP Jacob deGrom started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but struggled in the bottom of the second after he gave up back-to-back homers to 3B Austin Riley and 1B Matt Olson.

deGrom was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth, but gave up another solo homer in the bottom of the sixth this time from SS Dansby Swanson and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, five hits, three runs, 0 walks and 11 strikeouts.

deGrom has given up six homers in his last four starts and his ERA went up to 3.08.

RHP Tylor Megill came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to Olson and a double to the following hitter catcher Travis d'Arnaud.

Later in the inning, Megill gave up a sacrifice fly to LF Eddie Rosario and then a RBI single to 2B Orlando Arcia.

LHP Joely Rodriguez threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the second, RB Jeff McNeil and 3B Eduardo Escobar singled to start the inning.

Two batters later, 2B Luis Guillorme hit a RBI single.

The bats did not do much after that until the top of the eighth when catcher Tomas Nido hit a solo homer.

In the top of the ninth, DH Francisco Alvarez came up against star closer RHP Kenley Jensen with the based loaded and one out, but struck out.

RF Tyler Naquin also struck out for the last out of the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, October 1 at the Braves at 7:20 p.m.
