The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-3 tonight at Citi Field to get swept in their three-game series and dropped their record to 89-55.

LHP David Peterson got into immediate trouble in the top of the first after he walked the first three hitters faced.

Two batters later, Peterson gave up a two-run double to catcher Yan Gomes and another two-run double to the following hitter 1B P.J. Higgins and was then taken out.

RHP Trevor Williams came in next and gave up a RBI single to CF Michael Hermosillo and another RBI single to the following hitter LF Nelson Valazquez.

Peterson's final line was 0.1 innings, two hits, five runs, three walks and one strikeouts.

Williams allowed one run on four hits in 4.1 innings. He gave up one walk with eight strikeouts.

He did a fine job of preserving the bullpen and eating up some innings.

RHP Tommy Hunter followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

LHP Alex Claudio came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Mychal Givens had to come in to get the last two outs in the top of the ninth.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until catcher Tomas Nido hit a scoreless homer in the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the fifth, 3B Eduardo Escobar and RF Darin Ruf singled to start the inning and two batters later, CF Brandon Nimmo reached on an error which allowed Escobar to score.

The bats did not do much the rest of the game outside of a solo homer by 1B Pete Alonso in the bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, September 15 at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7:20 p.m.
