Mets Beat Pirates 4-3 Led By Stellar Outing From Walker

 The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 91-55.

The offense started off slow in the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third 3B Eduardo Escobar walked with one out and then catcher Tomas Nido followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, DH Daniel Vogelbach hit a solo homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, CF Brandon Nimmo led off the bottom of the sixth with an infield hit and then stole second.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single and then also second to advance Nimmo to third.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Nimmo.

In the bottom of the seventh, Escobar led off with a double and then Nido reached on an error by SS Oneil Cruz.

Nimmo followed with a RBI single.

RHP Taijuan Walker started out well with four scoreless innings, but in the top of the fifth 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes reached on an error by Escobar and then gave up back-to-back singles to DH Cal Michell and 1B Mitchell Chavis which brought home a run.

Walker was able to settle down with scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh, but ran into trouble in the top of the eighth after he gave up a single to catcher Tyler Heineman and then gave up a two-run homer to Cruz and was taken out.

His final line was 7.1 innings, five hits, three runs, 0 walks and five strikeouts.

He picked up his 12th win and lowered his ERA to 3.42.

RHP Edwin Diaz came in next and closed it out with a five out save and two strikeouts to pick up his 30th save and lowered his ERA to 1.43.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, September 17 at home against the Pirates at 7:10 p.m.
