Mets Lose To Marlins 6-3 And Waste Scoring Opportunities

 The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 6-3 tonight at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 87-52.

LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a one-out single to RF Brian Anderson and then a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Garrett Cooper.

Peterson settled down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off single to catcher Nick Fortes and then a RBI double to the following hitter SS Miguel Rojas.

Peterson walked CF Bryan De La Cruz with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and was then taken out.

His final line was 3.2 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Tommy Hunter followed to get the last out in the bottom of the fourth.

Hunter came back out for the bottom of the fifth and gave up a one-out double to Cooper and two batters later a RBI double to Fortes.

RHP Mychal Givens came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a lead-off infield hit to Fortes and two batters later a two-run homer to 2B Charles Leblanc.

After scoreless innings in the top of the first and second, catcher Tomas Nido doubled with one out in the top of the third and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI single.

SS Francisco Lindor then singled, but 2B Jeff McNeil grounded into a double play to end the inning.

After a scoreless top of the fifth, CF Brandon Nimmo walked to lead off the top of the sixth and three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer.

RF Tyler Naquin followed with a walk, but then LF Mark Canha fouled out to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh,  3B Eduardo Ecscobar and Nimmo singled with one out, but SS Francisco Lindor grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The bats went down weakly in the last couple of innings.

They were 1-3 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and left six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, September 10 at the Marlins at 6:10 p.m.
