Mets Dominate Nationals 10-0 For Fifth Consecutive Win Led By Another Strong Offensive Performance

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 10-0 tonight at Citi Field for their fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 34-17.

The offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after CF Mark Canha led off with a single and RF Starling Marte followed with a two-run homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second,  1B Pete Alonso singled with one out in the bottom of third and 3B J.D. Davis followed with an infield hit.

DH Jeff McNeil then singled to load the bases and two batters later, 2B Luis Guillorme continued his torrid hot streak with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the fifth, McNeil led off with an infield single and then 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a single.

Two batters later, catcher Tomas Nido reached on an infield hit to load the bases and then CF Mark Canha came up and broke the game open with a two-run double.

Marte then struck out, but SS Francisco Lindor kept the inning alive with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Davis led off with a single and two batters later, Escobar hit a two-run homer,

RHP Trevor Williams had a solid outing with five scoreless innings allowing three hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Williams picked up his first win and lowered his ERA to 3.58.

RHP Drew Smith followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Adonis Medina closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Dominate Nationals 13-5 Behind Powerful Offense

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 13-5 tonight at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 33-17.

The offense got off to another fast start in the bottom of the first after 2B Luis Guillorme led off with a single and RF Starling Marte followed with a single.

SS Francisco Lindor then hit a RBI single and 1B Pete Alonso walked to load the bases.

DH Jeff McNeil then came up and grounded into a double play and brought in Marte for the second run of the inning.

In the bottom of the second, CF Mark Canha led off with a single and LF Nick Plummer followed with a  RBI double.

Two batters later, Guillorme hit a RBI single to score Plummer and then Marte hit a two-run homer.

In the following inning, Canha walked with one out and then two batters later catcher Tomas Nido singled.

Guillorme followed with a walk to load the bases and the next hitter Marte delivered a two-run single.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, 3B Eduardo Escobar singled with one out and then Canha hit a single.

Plummer came up next and continued his strong start with a three-run homer, his second career homer in his second game.

The bats did not much for the next three innings, but in the bottom of the eighth 1B Pete Alonso capped off the scoring barrage with a solo homer, his thirteenth homer of the season.

The offense exploded for a total of 13 runs on 16 hits with three homers.

LHP David Peterson had a rough top of the first after he loaded the bases and then gave up a two-run single to 1B Josh Bell and then a sacrifice fly to LF Lance Thomas.

Peterson settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth after he gave up a lead-off single to 2B Cesar Hernandez and then walked catcher Keibert Ruiz.

Peterson then got RF Juan Soto to fly out and struck out pinch-hitter Yadiel Hernandez, but then gave up a RBI single to Bell and walked Thomas and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.2 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks and one strikeout.

RHP Colin Holderman came in next and retired 3B Maikel Franco on a pop-up to end the inning.

Holderman stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a one-out triple to SS Alcides Escobar and then gave up a RBI single to the next hitter 2B Cesar Hernandez, but was able to get out of the inning with allowing just the one run.

His final line was 1.1 innings. 2 hits, 1 run and 1 strikeout.

He picked up his second win.

LHP Chasen Shreve then threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Stephen Nogosek closed it out with scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.

The Mets next game is at home against the Nationals tomorrow night, Tuesday May 31th at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Phillies 5-4 On a Walk-Off Double By Eduardo Escobar

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 tonight at Citi Field to sweep their three-game series and improved their record to 32-17.

The offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after 2B Luis Guillorme led off with a double and then RF Starling Marte followed with a single.

SS Francisco Lindor then grounded into a fielder's choice that drove in Guillorme and also allowed Marte to reach second after SS Jorge Carmargo made a fielding error,

1B Pete Alonso then hit a bloop single and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a RBI ground-out to bring in the second run of the game.

CF Mark Canha came up next and hit a RBI ground-out to bring in the third run of the inning.

The bats did not much after that until the bottom of the ninth after LF Nick Plummer led off and hit his first homer of his career in his first start to tie the game. It was the first time since 2006 that a Met has hit his first career homer in the ninth inning or later.

In the bottom of the tenth, Lindor led off and struck out, but then 1B Pete Alonso was intentionally walked and then Escobar came up and delivered a walk-off RBI double to bring in Marte who started the inning on second base as the automatic runner.

RHP Chris Bassitt started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the third after he gave up a lead-off double to CF Odubel Herrera and then walked SS Jorge Camargo and LF Kyle Schwarber to load the bases.

Bassitt was able to limit the damage in the inning after he was able to get the next hitter 3B Alec Bohm to hit into a double play which brought in a run, but did not allow any more runs in the inning and kept a 3-1 lead after the top of the third.

Bassitt settled down into a nice groove after that and retired the last 10 hitters he faced.

His final line was 6 innings, 2 runs, 1 run, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed in the top of the seventh and retired the first two hitters he faced, but then ran into trouble after he tried to deflect a comebacker to the next hitter catcher J.T. Realmuto which caused him to leave the game with a pinky injury.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in to get the last out in the top of the seventh.

Rodriguez stayed in for the top of the eighth and worked around two walks and retired Schwarber on a ground-out and DH Bryce Harper on a fly-out and was taken out after Harper flew out.

RHP Adam Ottavino cane in next and gave up a three-run homer to RF Nick Castellanos.

RHP Stephen Nogosek threw a scoreless top of the ninth

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his second win.

The Mets next game is at home against the Washington Nationals tomorrow night, Monday May 30th at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Phillies 8-2 Powered By Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 at Citi Field tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 31-17.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 3B Eduardo Escobar singled with one out in the bottom of the second and CF Mark Canha singled and then DH Dom Smith hit a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk, 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single and then 2B Jeff McNeil came through with a three-run homer.

In the following inning, 2B Luis Guillorme reached on a bunt single with one out and then RF Starling Marte doubled. 

SS Francisco Lindor then broke the game open with a two-run triple and Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Guillorme singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and after Marte followed with a walk, Lindor delivered once again with a RBI single.

RHP Taijuan Walker allowed two runs on six hits in five innings. He gave up three walks and one strikeout. He picked up his third win.

RHP Colin Holderman followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

Mets Hang On To Beat Phillies 8-6 Led by Pete Alonso

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-6 tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 30-17.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off and reached on an error by SS Bryson Stott and then RF Starling Marte singled and SS Francisco Lindor walked to load the bases.

1B Pete Alonso and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with sacrifice flies and LF Mark Canha then hit a RBI single.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Lindor walked to lead off the bottom of the third and Alonso followed with a two-run homer.

In the next inning in the bottom of the fourth, Marte singled with two outs and stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Garrett Stubbs.

Lindor then hit a RBI single and Alonso hit a RBI double for his fourth RBI of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, catcher Tomas Nido led off with a walk and Nimmo followed with a double.

Marte then drove in Nimmo with a RBI ground-out.

RHP Carlos Carrasco cruised through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after he gave up infield hits to 1B Rhys Hoskins and 3B Alec Bohm.

Carrasco then gave up RBI singles to DH Bryce Harper and RF Nick Castellanos and two batters later gave up a RBI groundout to 2B Jean Segura and then walked CF Odubel Herrera and was then taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. He recorded his fifth win.

LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and gave up a three-run homer to Stubbs. 

Shereve was able to get out of the inning after he retired Stott on a grounder.

RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

LHP Joely Rodriguez followed in the top of the eighth and walked LF Kyle Schwarber to lead off the inning and then retired Segura on a ground-out and then gave up a double to Herrera, but came back to strike out Stubbs.

RHP Seth Lugo had to come in and retired catcher J.T. Realmuto on a pop-up to end the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning and picked up his 11th save.

The  Mets next game is at home against the Phillies tomorrow night, Saturday May 28th at 7:15 p.m.


 

Mets Outfielder Travis Jankowski Out 6-8 Weeks With Left Hand Fracture

The New York Mets announced today that outfielder Travis Jankowkski has been placed on the 10-Day IL with a left 4th metacarpal fracture. Jankowski is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

He was hitting .209 with three stolen bases along with excellent defense prior to the injury.

Manager Buck Showalter said that Jankowski broke his hand diving for a ball in the outfielder against the Giants.

RHP Stephen Nogosek and RHP Yoan Lopez were called up as corresponding roster moves after LHP Thomas Szapucki was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse yesterday.

Mets Lose To Giants 9-3 After Thomas Szapucki Struggles in First ML Start

The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 9-3 this afternoon at Oracle Park to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 29-17.

LHP Thomas Szapucki made his first ML start and got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first after he gave up a one-out double to 1B Wilmer Flores and then walked the next inning RF Mike Yastremski and then gave up a three-run homer to 3B Evan Longoria.

Szapucki then walked 2B Thairo Estrada and gave up a two-run homer to the following hitter LF Joc Pederson.

Szapucki's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a lead-off to SS Donovan Walton and two batters later a RBI double to Flores.

Szapucki then gave up a two-run homer to Yastremski and a solo homer to Longaria and was then taken out.

His final line was 1.1 innings, 7 hits, 9 runs, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

RHP Trevor Williams followed with 3.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Colin Holderman then threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

LHP Chasen Shreve threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. 

RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

After scoreless innings in the top of the first and second, 1B Dom Smith walked to lead off the top of the third, and two batters later catcher Patrick Mazeika singled and then CF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI ground-out.

The offense did not do much for the next two innings and then SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth.

After a scoreless top of the seventh, Nimmo tripled to lead off the top of the eighth and then RF Starling Marte hit a RBI ground-out.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, May 27th back at home at Citi Field against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:10 p.m.

 The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 13-12 tonight at Oracle Park and dropped their record to 29-16.

RHP Chris Bassitt had another rough outing against the Giants allowing eight runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings.

RHP Stephen Nogosek followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Drew Smith retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the eight, but then gave up a single and walk and a three-run homer to LF Joc Pederson.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores and after getting DH Tommy  La Stellla to ground into a double play, Diaz walked CF Mike Yaztremski and then gave up a single to 1B Darin Ruf.

Diaz then gave up a game-tying RBI single to Peterson and a walk-off single to the following hitter SS Brandon Crawford.

In the top of the second, 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a double and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a single and LF Mark Canha then hit a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth, in the top of the fifth catcher Tomas Nido led off with a single and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a hit but pitch.

Two batters later SS Francisco Lindor hit a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the seventh, RF Marte reached on an infield hit and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the eighth, McNeil led off with a single and Escobar followed with a single.

Cano then reached on an infield single to load the bases and DH Dom Smith followed with a two-run single.

Two batters later Nimmo reached on an infield hit and then Marte reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Lindor followed with a three-run triple.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly.

Mets Rout Giants 13-3 With Three Homers And Eight Extra Base Hits

 The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 13-3 tonight at Oracle Park and improved their record to 29-15.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings against RHP Alex Cobb, but came alive in the top off the third after DH J.D. Davis singled with one out and then later in the inning CF Brandon Nimmo and RF Starling Marte reached to load the bases with two outs.

SS Francisco Lindor then came up and delivered a two-run ground rule to tie the game.

1B Pete Alonso followed and delivered a three-run homer for his National League leading 11th homer and also entered the night leading the National League in RBI's.

After scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth, 2B Jeff McNeil led off the top of the sixth with a single and three batters later, Davis came through with a RBI double.

In the top of the eighth, Alonso led off with an infield single and McNeil followed with a two-run homer.

LF Mark Canha then hit a solo homer to go back-to-back and two batters later Davis doubled.

Catcher Patrick Mazeika followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the ninth, McNeil walked with two outs and after Canha followed with a single, 3B Eduardo Escobar then came up and hit a two-run double.

Davis followed with a RBI single.

LHP David Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the first, but had a difficult bottom of the second allowing two runs.

Peterson settled down after that retiring the last 11 hitters he faced. He had his sharp break on his slider as well as good command of his fastball and worked quickly.

His final line was 6 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.

He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 2.16.

RHP Colin Holderman followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.

LHP Chasen Shreve gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth, but still managed to get the last three outs.

The Mets next game is at the Giants tomorrow night, Tuesday May 24th at 9:45 p.m.

Mets Beat Rockies 2-0 Led By a Stellar Outing By Taijuan Walker

The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 2-0 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 28-15.

The offense did not much for the first five innings against LHP Austin Gomber, but came alive in the top of the sixth after CF Brandon Nimmo singled with one out and then advanced to third after RF Randall Grichuk made an error.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single and the next hitter 2B Jeff McNeil doubled.

1B Pete Alonso then hit a RBI ground-out to bring in the second run of the inning.

RHP Taijuan Walker had another outstanding start with seven scoreless innings for the second time in his last three starts allowing five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Walker worked out of several jams using pinpoint control and had command of his fastball and slider.

He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 2.70.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next in the bottom of the eighth and walked two out of the first three hitters he faced before recovering to strike out DH C.J. Cron and was then taken out.

LHP Joely Rodriguez followed and retired 3B Ryan McMahon on a fly-out to end the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on the in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a one-out single to 2B Brendan Rodgers, but came back to strike out SS Jose Iglesias for the second out and retired catcher Brian Server on a fly-out to end the game and picked up his 10th save.

Mets Lose To Rockies 11-3 In Second Game Of Doubleheader Due to Pitching Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the Colorado Rockies 11-3 tonight at Coors Field in the second game of a doubleheader and dropped their record to 27-15.

RHP Trevor Williams got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off single to RF Connor Joe and two batters later a two-run homer to 1B C.J. Cron.

Williams's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after hit 2B Brendan Rogers to lead off the inning and then three batters later, allowing a two-run homer to catcher Brian Serven.

Williams settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was 4 innings, 3 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts.

RHP Adonis Medina followed and started out well with a scoreless bottom of the fifth, and came back for the bottom of the sixth, where he allowed five runs and did not get out of the inning.

LHP Chasen Shreve had to come in and gave up two runs, but still managed to finish the inning.

RHP Jake Reed came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

LHP Joely Rodriguez threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

After a scoreless top of the first, 3B Eduardo Escobar walked with one out in the top of the second and DH J.D. Davis followed with a single.

Catcher Tomas Nido then reached on an infield single which brought home a run and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a sacrifice fly.

After scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourth and fifth, LF Mark Canha walked to lead off the top of the sixth and then stole second,.

Three batters later, Davis reached on an infield hit which brought home a run, but was later thrown out at second trying to steal which ended the scoring threat.

The bats did not much after that and went down quietly for the remainder of the game.

Mets Beat Rockies 5-1 in First Game of Doubleheader Behind Starling Marte and Carlos Carrasco

 The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 this afternoon at Coors Feld in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 27-14.

The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo hit a lead-off single and RF Starling Marte followed with a two-run homer.

In the next inning, 1B Dom Smith led off and reached first on an error by SS Julio Iglesias and 2B Luis Guillorme followed with a single.

Catcher Patrick Mazieka then came up and delivered a two-run double.

The bats were held scoreless in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings, but came alive once again in the top of the sixth.

Guillorme led off the inning and reached on an infield single and after Mazeika grounded out and Nimmo struck out, Marte singled and then SS Francisco Lindor came through with a RBI single.

RHP Carlos Carrasco cruised through the first five innings, but into trouble in the bottom of the sixth after he gave up a double to 1B C.J. Croin and two batters later a single to 2B Brendan Rogers and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and after getting an out, he gave up a infield single to Iglesias which brought home a run.

Ottavino then retired catcher Elias Diaz to end the inning.

Carrasco's final line was 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. His command was outstanding once again with his fastball, change-up and slider.

He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.50.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings.

The Mets next game is tonight at the Rockies at 8:40 p.m. in the second game of the doubleheader.

Mets-Rockies Game Postponed Due To Winter Snow Warning

Tonight's Mets-Rockies series opener has been postponed at Coors Field   due to a winter storm warning.

The game will be made up tomorrow afternoon at 3:10 p.m. as part of a single-admission doubleheader.

The second game will start in its regular scheduled time at 8:40 p.m.

Mets Beat Cardinals 7-6 in 10 Innings On a Two-Run Walk Off Homer By Pete Alonso

The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 this afternoon at Citi Field to take three out of four games in the series and improved their record to 26-14.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and then advanced to second after LF Mark Canha grounded out to second.

Nimmo then advanced to third on a wild pitch and SS Francisco Lindor walked. 

1B Pete Alonso then came up and hit a RBI single.

Lindor and Alonso then stole second and third on a double steal and LF Jeff McNeil grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home another run.

The bats were held scoreless in the bottom of the second, third, and fourth innings, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth after 2B Luis Guillorme led off with a double and then catcher Tomas Nido hit a sacrifice bunt to move Guillorme to third.

Nimmo then hit a RBI ground-out to tie the game and Canha followed with a single.

Lindor then singled and Alonso walked to load the bases.

LF Jeff McNeil then came up and delivered a two-run double.

The offense did not do much for the next few innings, but in the bottom of the tenth Alonso led off the inning with Lindor on second as the automatic runner and delivered a two-run homer.

RHP Chris Bassitt had a scoreless top of the first, but gave up a solo homer to LF Juan Yepez in the top of the second.

Bassitt gave up another solo homer to DH Paul Goldschmidt in the top of the third.

Bassitt had a scoreless top of the fourth, but in the top of the fifth, he gave up a lead-off double to 2B Tommy Edman and then two batters a RBI double to Goldschmidt.

Bassitt had a scoreless top of the sixth and came back out for the top of the seventh, but walked Edman with one out and then gave up a single to 3B Brendan Donovan and was then taken out.

RHP Drew Smith came in next and got Goldschmidt to fly out to McNeil who also threw out Edman at second to end the inning, but the run was able to score.

Bassitt's final line was 6.1 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up an infield hit to CF Harrison Bader, but came back to retire catcher Yadier Moliana on a ground-out and struck out Edman.

Diaz then walked Donovan and almost closed out the game after Goldschmidt grounded out to 3B Eduardo Escobar, but Escobar made a fielding error which allowed Bader to score.

Diaz then walked Arenado to load the bases, but came back to strike out Yepez to keep the game tied.

RHP Colin Holderman came on in the top of the tenth and gave up a single to RF Dylan Carlson, but then recovered to retire 1B Albert Pujois on a double play which brought in a run  and then got Bader to ground out to end the inning and keep it a one-run game.

Holerman picked up his first win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday May 20th at the Colorado Rockies at 8:40 p.m.

Max Scherzer Has Moderate To High Grade Oblique Injury

 The New York Mets announced today that RHP Max Scherzer has a moderate to high-grade oblique injury.

His recovery time is around six to eight weeks which means he will be out until around the All-Star Break.

Mets Rout Cardinals 11-4 Led By Pete Alonso

 The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 11-4 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 25-14.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and RF Mark Canha followed with a single.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then LF Jeff McNeil came up and delivered a two-run single.

The bats did not do much for the next three innings, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth after Canha led off with a walk and then SS Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch.

Alonso then hit a RBI single and McNeil followed by reaching on an infield single.

3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a sacrifice fly and then DH Dom Smith hit a RBI single.

2B Luis Guillorme then pulled off a well executed sacrifice bunt which scored McNeil and allowed Smith to advance to second.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, Guillorme led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and catcher Patrick Mazieka sacrificed him to second.

Nimmo followed with a RBI triple and then Canha hit a RBI single.

Lindor walked and then Alonso came up and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

RHP Max Scherzer allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits in 5.2 innings. He gave up no walks with four strikeouts and picked up his fifth win.

Scherzer left the game in the top of the sixth with discomfort in his left side.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and got the last out in the top of the sixth and stayed in for the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Seth Lugo followed and gave up a two-run homer to 3B Nolan Arenado in the top of the eighth.

RHP Colin Holderman closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is at home against the Cardinals tomorrow afternoon, Thursday May 19th at 1:10 p.m.


Max Scherzer Leaves Game With Left Side Discomfort

 New York Mets RHP Max Scherzer removed himself from his start in tonight's game against the St. Louis Cardinals after throwing a slider on a 1-1 count to Albert Pujois with two outs in the top of the sixth inning with what the team is calling left side discomfort. 

Scherzer signaled to the Mets bench that he was done for the night after throwing the pitch and manager Buck Showalter, pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and a trainer came out to the dugout to check on him.

Scherzer walked off the field after a brief discussion.

He will have imaging done tomorrow, but Scherzer did not seem too concerned that it was a major strain.

Mets Lose to Cardinals 4-3 In Second Game Of Doubleheader And Struggle With Men On Base

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 tonight at Citi Field in the second game of a doubleheader and dropped their record to 24-14.

RHP Taijuan Walker cruised through the first three innings, but in the top of the fourth he gave up a lead-off single to 3B Brendon Donovan and then a RBI double to the following hitter 1B Paul Goldschmidt.

Walker's struggles continued in the top of the fifth after he gave up a one-out single to catcher Andrew Knizner and then a RBI triple to the following hitter 2B Tommy Edman.

Walker then walked Donovan and then gave up a RBI double to Goldschmidt and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was 5 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

RHP Adonis Medina followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and got the last out in the top of the eighth.

Rodriguez stayed in for the top of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off walk to Donovan and allowed Donovan to steal second and then advanced to third on a passed ball by catcher Tomas Nido.

Rodriguez then walked RF Dylan Carlson and was taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and struck out pinch-hitter Nolan Arenado, but then allowed LF Tyler O'Neil to reach on an infield hit which brought home a run.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after LF Mark Canha hit a solo homer.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Escobar came up with the based loaded and one out, but popped out and DH J.D. Davis struck out to end the inning.

After a scoreless bottom of the seventh, Lindor walked with one out in the bottom of the eighth and two batters later, Escobar struck out, but reached first base on a passed ball by Knizner.

McNeil then came up and delivered a game-tying RBI single.

In the bottom of the ninth, pinch-hitter Dom Smith walked and 2B Luis Guillorme singled with one out, but then Canha and Lindor struck out to end the game.

The offense was 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday May 18th at home against the Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.



 

Brandon Nimmo Leaves Game With Knee Injury

 New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo left the game early tonight after he was hit with a foul ball while hitting. Nimmo later hit a dribbler past the mound and was thrown out at first and then came up limping and kneeled over.

After the game, Manager Buck Showalter said that Nimmo has a right quad contusion and is day to day.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 1B Dom Smith led off the bottom of the second with a single and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a walk.

2B Luis Guillorme then singled to load the bases and RF Travis Jankowski came up and grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in a run.

In the bottom of the third, SS Francisco Lindor led off and reached on an error and then LF Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI double.

Two batters later, 1B Dom Smith drive in McNeil with an RBI double.

RHP Trevor Williams had a stellar performance with four scoreless innings giving up four hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

RHP Jake Reed followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth. Reed had two walks and two strikeouts. He picked up his first win.

RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Drew Smith followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to DH Paul Goldschmidt, but was able to get out of the inning with allowing only one run,

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and worked around a two-out single and walk with three strikeouts and picked up his ninth save.

Mets Lose To Mariners 8-7 After Ninth Inning Rally Comes Up Short

 The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 8-7 this afternoon at Citi Field for their first series loss of the year and dropped their record to 23-13.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out with two scoreless innings and in the top of the third, he gave up a lead-off double to 3B Abraham Toro and then a single to RF Steven Sousa Jr.

Carrasco then got catcher Cal Raleigh to ground into a double play, but a run scored.

Carrasco ran into more trouble in the top of the fourth giving up singles to SS J.P Crawford and LF Jesse Winker and then walked CF Julio Rodriguez which loaded the bases.

Carrasco then gave up a two-run single to DH Mike Ford and a RBI single to Toro.

Carrasco came back out for the top of the fifth and gave up an extra base hit and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.1 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and got the last two outs in the fifth.

Shreve stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a lead-off homer to Rodriguez.

Shreve then got Ford to pop out and gave up an infield hit to Toro and was then taken out.

RHP Drew Smith followed and got Souza to pop out, but then gave up a two-run homer to Raleigh.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next in the top of the seventh and gave up a one-out ground rule double to Winker and a RBI single to Rodriguez.

Rodriguez stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Colin Holderman made his ML debut in the top of the ninth after he was called up from Triple-A Syracuse today and threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer with one out.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, 1B Pete Alonso singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth and LF Mark Canha followed with a walk.

DH J.D. Davis then hit a two-run triple and 3B Eduardo Escobar walked.

Three batters later, CF Brandon Nimmo came through with a two-run triple.

The bats did not do much for the next four innings, but came alive in the bottom of the ninth after Escobar tripled with one out and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI single.

Catcher Patrick Mazeika then singled and Nimmo followed with a RBI double.

RF Starling Marte came up next and struck out, but then Lindor was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs.

Alonso came up with a chance to win the game, but struck out on a check swing on a slider out of the zone after also chasing a bad slider earlier in the at-bat. 

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday May 16th at home against the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.

Tylor Megill Goes On IL With Bicep Inflammation

 The New York Mets announced prior to today's game that RHP Tylor Megill was placed on the 15-day IL with right biceps inflammation and will undergo an MRI today.

Megill is coming off his worst outing of the season against the Washington Nationals allowing eight runs in only 1 1/3 innings. 

The MRI later showed right biceps tendinitis, so there's fortunately no structural damage. 

The Mets are going to hold Megill back from throwing for a few days and then reassess. 

RHP Colin Holderman was called up from Triple-A Syracuse as corresponding roster move.

Holderman is a six-foot seven former ninth-round pick with 13 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings.

Mets Beat Mariners 5-4 After Patrick Mazeika Hits Solo Homer In Seventh

 The New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 5-4 tonight at Citi Field after a rain delay that lasted a little over an hour and improved their record to 23-12.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after RF Starling Marte tripled with one out and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.

After a scoreless bottom of the second,  CF Brandon Nimmo reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the third and then Marte followed with a double.

Lindor then hit a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game and after 1B Pete Alonso walked, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Marte.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nimmo led off with a single and three batters later, Alonso drove in Nimmo with an RBI double.

In the bottom of the seventh, catcher Patrick Mazeika led off and delivered a game-winning homer.

RHP Chris Bassitt worked out of a based loaded jam in the top of the first and then settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

Bassitt did not have his best stuff tonight and had trouble establishing a rhythm with Mazieka behind the plate and struggled working with him on pitch selection.

Despite that, Bassitt had five scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after he hit 3b Eugenio Suarez and then gave up a single to LF Jesse Winker.

Bassitt came back to strike out the next two hitters he faced, but then gave up a RBI single to RF Steven Souza Jr and was then taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts.

RHP Seth Lugo came in next and walked catcher Luis Torres, but was able to get out of the inning after he retired 2B Adam Frazier on a fly out to right to end the inning.

Lugo stayed in for the top of the seventh and gave up one-out singles to SS J.P Crawford and Suarez and was then taken out.

LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and immediately gave up a three-run homer to Winker, but managed finish the inning and keep the game tied.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth and picked up his second win.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and had a dominating performance against his former team striking out the side and picked up his eighth save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday May 15th at home against the Mariners at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Lose To Mariners 2-1 After Offense Struggles To Deliver Timely Hit

 The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 2-1 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 22-12.

RHP Max Scherzer came out firing with three perfect innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth after he hit 1B Ty France and then gave up  a single to SS J.P Crawford and  a RBI single to LF Jesse Winker.

Scherzer settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth and got out of  a based loaded one out jam in the top of the seventh with an inning ending double play and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed and ran into trouble in the top of the eighth after he gave up back-to-back walks to start the inning and then a RBI single to France.

Smith recovered to strike out the next two hitters and retired Winker on a pop out to end the inning.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with an infield single and then RF Starling Marte followed with a double and SS Francisco Lindor then hit a sacrifice fly.

1B Pete Alonso walked, but then 3B Eduardo Escobar struck out and then LF Mark Canha grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The bats did not do much after for the next few innings until they had a rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh after catcher Tomas Nido walked and Nimmo followed with a double, but Marte struck out to end the threat.

They went weakly 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings and were 0-5 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday May 14th at home against the Mariners at 7:10 p.m.


James McCann Placed On 10-Day IL With Fractured Wrist

 The New York Mets announced today that catcher James McCann has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured hamate bone.

The team said he will undergo surgery and his recovery time is six weeks, which means he would probably be out until around the All-Star break.

Catcher Patrick Mazieka was called up from Triple-A to replace McCann on roster.

Mets Beat Nationals 4-1 To Take Series Led By Taijuan Walker and Mark Canha

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-1 this afternoon at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 22-11.

The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and two batters SS Francisco Lindor walked.

1B Pete Alonso struck out and then 2B Jeff McNeil walked to load the bases.

LF Mark Canha came up and delivered a two-run single.

After scoreless innings in the top of the second and third, Canha led off the top of the fourth with an infield single and 3B J.D. Davis followed with a hit by pitch.

3B Luis Guillorme then grounded into a double play, but catcher Tomas Nido delivered with a RBI single.

The bats did not do much for the next four innings, but in the top of the ninth Canha capped off his stellar day at the plate with a solo homer.

RHP Taijuan Walker cruised through the first three innings and ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after RF Juan Soto lead off with a double. 

Walker was then helped out by his defense on a bizarre play after the following hitter 1B Josh Bell hit a grounder to 3B Luis Guillorme and then Walker tagged out Soto in a rundown.

Walker then tried to throw Bell out at second, but he overthrew it and it went into right field, but fortunately RF Starling Marte was there to back up the play and threw Bell out trying to advance to third.

Walker settled down after that and had scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings innings. 

He battled through injuries and fatigue and had a terrific outing.

His final line was 7 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

He picked up his first win and lowered his ERA to 3.00.

RHP Seth Lugo came in next in the bottom of the eighth and had a dominating 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and struck out the first two hitters he faced, and after allowing a solo homer to Soto, he was able to get Bell to pop out to end the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday May 13th back home at Citi Field against the Seattle Mariners at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Nationals 8-3 After Tylor Megill Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-3 tonight at Nationals Park in Washington D.C to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 21-11.

RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off single to 2B Cesar Hernandez and then allowed a two-run homer to RF Juan Soto.

Megill gave up a hit-by pitch to the following hitter 1B Josh Bell and two batters later, a double to LF Yadiel Hernandez and then a RBI single to catcher Keibert Ruiz.

Later in the inning Megill gave up a sacrifice fly to 3B Maikel Franco and a RBI single to the next hitter 3B Dee Strange-Gordon.

Megill's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a lead-off single to 2B Cesar Hernandez and two batters later, a single to Bill and then a three-run homer to DH Nelson Cruz.

Megill then walked LF Yadiel Hernandez and was taken out.

His final line was 1.1 innings, 8 hits, 8 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.

RHP Trevor Williams came in next and threw 3.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Stephen Nogosek threw 3 scoreless innings.

The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and RF Starling Marte followed by hitting a bunt single and then Nimmo scored on a throwing error by Franco which also allowed Marte to advance to second

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer.

The bats did not do much after that for the remainder of the game and went 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday May 12th at the Nationals at 1:05 p,m.

Mets Beat Nationals 4-2 Led By Another Outstanding Start From Carlos Carrasco

 The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-2 tonight at Nationals Park in Washington D.C for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 21-10.

The offense wasted several scoring opportunities in the first five innings, but came alive in the top of the sixth after 1B Pete Alonso and DH J.D. Davis singled and 3B Eduardo Escobar walked to load the bases.

2B Jeff McNeil came up and delivered a two-run double past 1B Josh Bell to tie the game.

Catcher James McCann followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.

After scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings, LF Mark Canha reached on an error by 3B Maikel Franco to lead off the ninth and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single.

Alonso was then intentionally walked to load the bases and Davis came up and drove in a much needed insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Carlos Carrasco cruised through the first three innings, but in the bottom of the fourth he ran into trouble after he gave up one-out singles to 1B Josh Bell and DH Nelson Cruz and then two batters he allowed a RBI single to Franco.

Carrasco gave up a solo homer to catcher Riley Adams in the bottom of the fifth, but did not allow any more runs after that.

Carrasco retired the last two hitters he faced in the fifth and was helped out by getting Bell to ground into a double play in the bottom of the sixth.

Carrasco retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the seventh and then gave up a single to SS Dee Strange-Gordon and was then taken out.

His final line was 6.2 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Carrasco had outstanding control and command  once again especially with his off-speed pitches.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 3.19.

RHP Drew Smith followed and got the last out in the bottom of the seventh.

Smith stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and walked CF Victor Robles with one out, but then recovered to strike out 2B Cesar Hernandez for the second out.

LHP Joely Rodriguez had to come in and retired superstar RF Juan Soto on a pop-out to end the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom the ninth and struck out the first hitter he faced. Diaz then gave up a single to Cruz, but came back to induce a game-ending double play by LF Yadiel Hernandez and picked up his seventh save.

The Mets next game is at the Nationals tomorrow night, Wednesday May 11th at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Beat Phillies 6-1 To Split Doubleheader Powered By Two Homers By Pete Alonso

 The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia to split their doubleheader and take two out of games in the series and improved their record to 20-10.

The offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor singled with two outs and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.

The bats were quiet for the next three innings, but in the top of the fifth, catcher Tomas Nido led off with a single, CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single, but then Nido was thrown out trying to advance to third.

LF Mark Canha walked and two batters later, Alonso delivered the big blow of the game with a three-run homer for his second of the game.

In the top of the sixth, 3B J.D. Davis reached on an infield hit with two outs and Nido followed with a double.

Davis then scored on a wild pitch by Phillies reliever RHP Andrew Bellatti.

RHP Chris Bassitt had a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave up a solo homer to SS Jean Segura in the bottom of the second and did not allow any more runs after that.

Basitt settled down after that and his final line was 5.2 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.

He picked up his fourth win which ties RHP Max Scherzer and RHP Tylor Megill for the team lead and lowered his ERA to 2.45.

LHP Chasen Shreve followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday, May 10th at the Washington Nationals in Washington, D.C at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Lost to Phillies 3-2 In First Game Of Doubleheader After Max Scherzer Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA and dropped their record to 19-10.

RHP Max Scherzer got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a solo homer to RF Bryce Harper.

Scherzer had a scoreless bottom of the second inning, but ran into trouble after he gave up singles to LF Kyle Schwarber and 3B Alec Bohm and then a RBI single to Harper, his second RBI of the day.

Scherzer had a scoreless bottom of the third, but his struggles continued in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off single to catcher J.T. Realmuto and two batters later, a single to SS Jean Segura and then a single to the following hitter to 1B Jorge Carmago which loaded the bases.

Scherzer then gave up a RBI hitter to the next hitter SS Bryson Stott, but did not allow any more runs in the inning.

He settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was 6 innings, 10 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. Scherzer battled without having his best stuff and kept his team in the game.

LHP Joely Rodriguez followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against RHP Kyle Gibson, but came alive in the top of the sixth after RF Starling Marte led off with a double and 2B Luis Guillorme followed with a single.

Catcher James McCann then grounded into a double play to bring in a run and then CF Brandon Nimmo singled and SS Francisco Lindor then hit a RBI double

LF Jeff McNeil struck out to end the inning.

The bats did not do much after that and went 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four runners on base.

The Mets next game is coming up at 4:15 p.m. this afternoon at the Phillies in the second game of doubleheader.

Mets-Phillies Game Rained Out

Tonight's Mets-Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia has been officially rained out.

The game will be made up as a part of a doubleheader on August 20th.

The Mets next game is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 7th at the Phillies at 4:05 p.m., but there is rain and heavy wind gusts in the forecast so that game could be rained out as well.

Mets Rally To Beat Phillies 8-7 With Seven Runs In Ninth Inning

 The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA and improved their record to 19-9.

The offense did not do much for the first eight innings outside of a solo homer by RF Starling Marte, but in the top of the ninth they came alive and pulled off an incredible comeback.

Marte led off with an infield single and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a two-run homer.

1B Pete Alonso then doubled and after 3B Eduardo Escobar lined out, 2B Jeff McNeil came through with a RBI single.

LF Mark Canha then reached on an infield single to bring in another run and the next hitter DH Dom Smith struck out, but then pinch-hitter J.D. Davis came up and delivered a RBI double.

CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a two-run single to tie the game scoring Canha and pinch-runner Travis Jankowski.

Marte then came up and delivered a game-winning RBI double

RHP Taijuan Walker got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first allowing four runs following an error by Lindor.

Walker's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a run and after a scoreless bottom of the third, gave up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

RHP Chasen Shreve followed and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Adonis Medina came in next and threw 2.2 scoreless innings. Medina picked up his first win.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on the bottom of the ninth to close it out and had a dominating 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts to pick up his sixth save.

The Mets next game is at the Phillies tomorrow night, Friday May 6th at 7:05 p.m.
