Mets Lost To Nationals 8-7 After Blowing Six-Run Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-7 this afternoon at Nationals Park to drop their record to 19-9.

RHP Tylor Megill had a scoreless bottom of the first and then gave up a solo homer to CF Dylan Crews in the bottom of the second.

Megill was able to settle down after that and retired 13 of the next 14 hitters he faced.

He came back out for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a lead-off double to 2B Luis Garcia and two batters later, a RBI single to 1B Josh Bell and was then taken out.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and striking out Crews, but then gave up back-to-back singles to 3B Jose Tena and RF Alex Calli and later in the inning a three-run homer to catcher Riley Adams.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the eighth and worked out of a based loaded jam.

RHP Ryen Stanek came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into immediate trouble giving up a lead-of double to Calli and two batters later, a RBI single to Abrams.

Abrams then walked 1B James Woods and then 1B Pete Alonso made a throwing error over Stanek's head which allowed the winning run to score.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with an infield hit and then RF Juan Soto walked.

Alonso then walked to load the bases and 3B Mark Vientos drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

DH Starling Marte followed with a walk and LF Brandon Nimmo then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Catcher Luis Torrens came up next and drove in Alonso with a RBI single and Marte scored on an error by Crews.

2B Luisangel Acuan followed with a RBI single.

In the top of the second, Soto led off with a double and Alonso reached on an infield hit.

Two batters later, Marte grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run.

In the top of the fifth, Vientos led off with a single and three batters later, Torrens drove in another run with a RBI double.

The offense did not score any more runs after that and failed to capitalize with men on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Monday, April 28 at the Nationals at 4:05 p.m.
