Mets Lose To Twins 6-3 With Sloppy Defense And Lack of Timely Hitting

The New York Mets lost to the Minnesota Twins 6-3 tonight at Target Field to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 11-6.

RHP Tylor Megill started out well with two scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the third.

Megill gave up a lead-off single to LF Harrison Bader who then stole second and advanced to third on a base hit by CF Byron Buxton.

SS Francisco Lindor then made an error on a routine grounder which allowed the tying run to score and then SS Carlos Correa drove in a run with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Megill hit DH Trevor Larnach to lead off the inning and then gave up a double to the following hitter catcher Ryan Jeffers.

Later in the inning, Megill gave up a RBI single to Bader who reached on an infield hit.

In the bottom of the fifth, Megill gave up a lead-off single to Buxton who then stole second and two batters later, 1B Ty France drove in a run on a RBI ground-out and then Megill was taken out after the innng.

His final line was five innings, eight hits, four runs, (two earned runs), 0 walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Max Kranick came in next in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off double and after retiring the next two hitters, gave up a RBI single to 2B Eduoard Julien.

Kranick stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to pinch-hitter Brooks Lee.and was then taken out.

LHP Danny Young followed and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

1B Pete Alonso got the Met offense off to a fast start in the top of the first with a solo homer.

In the top of the fourth, RF Juan Soto homered for the second consecutive game after he hit a solo homer.

In the top of the seventh, 3B Mark Vientos singled with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a double.

Pinch-hitter Jesse Winker then drove in Vientos with a sacrifice fly and then 2B Luisangel Acuna walked to keep the rally alive, but Lindor grounded out to end the threat.

The Met offense was unable to get a timely hit with men on base after they went 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving 7 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 16 at the Twins at 1:10 p.m.
